Fluorescense in an I AGS stone

I had a round brilliant stone a super long time ago, well, 1997.

It is AGS000 and I am looking at the certificate and it said the Fluorescense is Inert and the color was an I. I remember that the blue bothered me a lot! Why did it not show up white? I can''t tell by the certi if it was strong blue; the cert just says inert. I thought fluorescense would make an I or J white??? I was just curious about it being blue. Sorry but I would like to learn more about this since someone elses thread got me thinking about it. Thank you very much.

inert means nothing....there is no effect. if you were seeing blue, it was due to something else. our blue skies most likely.

fluorecsence (keep in mind that there are many colors of fluor) does not make an 'i' or 'j' stone white. the presence of BLUE fluor (medium and higher) can help the stone APPEAR less yellow. it is the same reason those little blue crystals in are in detergent. blue gives off a 'cooler' appearance. it is just perception.
cut makes a difference too!

I am positive. People use to comment about it being blue (indoors/outdoors) so I bought a different stone because it bothered me. Interesting; oh well maybe I am very sensitive.

yep, it bothered me because people asked if I had one of those special blue diamonds. lol.

No, not the ring I lost. I traded it in because of the blue; I seriously thought it had strong fluorescense and now pulling out the cert it said inert. Weird; the cert was from 1997; that might make a difference. . . do you think?

No. The only thing I could think is, maybe it accidently had the wrong grade put down? Guess anything''s possible.

You should!

we do need to make a date. if you are serious about looking at stones with fluor, it might be tough. the b&m's still have the old 'fluor is bad' mentality, so they don't carry them. i might be able to get an example though. a close friend has a 'j' with strong blue.
