Fluorescence

I am writing to ask all those knowledgeable about fluorescence and diamonds as to whether or not fluorescence will increase or decrease the initial cost and the associated later value of a particular diamond. The diamond in question is a D IF, H&A, triple excellent diamond that I am having Good Old Gold special order for me and has medium fluorescence. I thank you in advance.

The value of this diamond is altered a bit from one without fluorescence. I''d naturally assume that the dealers who have handled this stone on its way to you made the proper adjustments and that you will also get asked to pay a price which is also adjusted to be appropriate.mmTruthfully, no one can tell if the price you are paying is exactly correct for the small difference this much UV makes. It is a nominal amount.

I think others would like to know why you bought a diamond with fluorescence. What influenced your choice? Did you do it to save a little money? Did you want the effect? Do you prefer fluorescence? Let us know.

From this page on GOG''s site http://www.goodoldgold.com/4Cs/Color/Fluorescence/ , I would gather that the value of the diamond would be 3-7% lower than one without fluorescence. Scroll down the page and there''s a chart. I imagine that they''re taking that into the equation, when pricing the diamond though.

As far as later value is concerned, diamonds don''t seem to be particularly easy to liquidate. So their later value, at least from what I can tell and I''m by no means an expert, seems to usually be far less than what one might pay.

I haven''t purchased the diamond just yet, but GOG did order it for viewing. However, I did no specifically request the fluorescence, only the initial parameters pertaining to the 4 C''s and H&A.
