I have been told that you can go to a lower color grade if the stone has a blue fluorescence, because the fluor will sort of offset the tinge to the stone. Is that true? Would it be safe to go H-I, or even J, if there was something like medium blue fluorescence?

Also, the mounting that interests me has stones that completely encircle the center stone and are set just a bit below, so the side profile of the center stone would not really be visible. I''ve heard that lower color grades are more obvious in side profile than top-down, is that also true?

blue fluorescence can help some of the lower color stones appear a bit different than their non fluoro counterparts but the fluor has to be at least medium to have any visual effects at all. even then, you really aren't changing the color of the stone, just a possible perception of the color. cut quality will have a greater effect on the look of the stone than the fluor. will. and the bottom line is, if you are not comfortable with the lower colored stones, don't get one. fluorescence is not going to make *that* much of a difference.

yes, it is true because the diamond is faceted so that the reflections and sparkle come from the top. there is nothing reflecting in the sides, so all you see is the true body color of the stone. obviously, the better cut and well placed the facets are, the more sparkle (and less color) you will see from the top. the sides will always show the true body color however. so if you do go with a lower color, a setting that covers the pavilion will hide any color that may be seen

I have a J that''s med blue fluoro and it is gorgeous, you cannot see anything but white (in my opinion).

I posted pics in this thread https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/its-done.71834/ The pics show off the stone very well, I''ve received many many compliments on it being so clean, sparkly and white.
