My fiancé and I fell in love with the Flanders Cut last November. We picked out a stone and then he worked with the jeweler to design the setting. We went with a cathedral setting that was open in the middle to let the stone look like it was floating. We also put in small baguettes on the side.

The ring is platinum, with a brushed finish. The stone is 1.01 G VS1.

We like the unusual, especially when the unusual is also beautiful. And regardless, I love it all the more since he took so much time to work with a jeweler to create something that he would love too!

Let me know what you think…

It''s a very unique setting...is there a matching band, or what are your plans for a band? Looking at the profile shots I almost expected the 2 sides to come up and meet the stone on top, but looking back at the first picture, they don''t. It''s very unique. What caused you to go for that setting?

Yea. I''m glad people like it! I will try to take more pictures this week-end. And I would welcome advise on how to get good close-ups!

You asked about the setting... we were trying to maximize the negative space and minimize the impact of the prongs. We set the stone at a 45 degree angle from what is traditional in order to get the Flanders look from the flanders stone. By putting the baguettes in the side, we were hoping that it would serve as a ''window'' to the center stone and to further minimize the metal around the stone.

As for bands, I welcome suggestions. I was thinking something also in brushed platimum, maybe with scattered baby flanders burnished in... maybe about the same thickness as the ER. Any thoughts?

The wonderful folks at Windy City Diamonds in Chicago both had the stone and helped us create the setting. They are wonderful! I believe they have the best access to Flanders cut diamonds in the US. We had a number of stones from which to choose. And they were fabulous to work with. We enjoyed every step of the process!
