Five beautiful kittens looking for homes

OMG that orange one
I can't believe you can find any homes for them they are all adorable. Thank you for posting those pictures, made my day.

The mom looks like our cat, Carly, sweetest cat I've ever had.

:appl:That orange one is just delicious. I hope these pics will help me find homes for these adorable fur babies.

Did you get in touch with local rescues? They need to have vet care and be socialized in order to get a good start at life.

Be really, really careful if you decide home them yourself. Ask for references, talk to their vet, visit their home. People will take kittens to feed to snakes, use in dog fighting, and just be poor owners. I do a lot of work with rescues and it is not easy making sure they get to a good home.

Check into TNR groups in your area too. Mama doesn't need more babies! They also can often help trap kittens if needed and recommend rescues.

Yes, I have been told that. Horrendous people. I have asked people that I know, and will call the cat rescue people if I don’t find homes. Right now, mom is guarding them closely.

Rescue usually takes mama and babies together. From your picture, they aren't truly feral. They could help her to be transitioned to a home -- and (at minimum) spayed so no more litters who may not be as lucky as this one.

Have you talked to a vet? I haven't had kittens here, but know that with puppies there are some critical things to take care of or they can get very sick very quickly.

@babs23r, another idea and one I've had success with in the past is contacting a rescue group and having them post the kittens or network go find them homes. They will put potential homes through the application process and contact you about potential approved homes. It helps if you have some connection to a rescue but if not most places are willing to help especially since they wouldn't need to house them.

That is a good idea. I am going to try and socialize more with them, although mom is pretty protective of them still.

Those are some seriously cute kittens! In second what StephanieLynn said about asking rescues to post or network the kittens.

When I was looking for a bread specific rescue, I reached out to 3 states... none had the dog I was looking for. However, one of those rescues pointed me in the direction of the dog I ended up with. He was at a pound, simply because the rescue couldn’t take him. Had the pound not networked with the rescue, I wouldn’t have known about him...

Also, the Nextdoor app has been useful to many in my area that have been looking to find home for pets. Good luck!

Hi. I never hear of that app. Will look into it, thank you!

I just heard back from one of my contacts. North Shore is still adding kittens to their list. Everyone else seems to be overflowing.

Awesome information here.

Did you reach out to them 23babs? Open spots are difficult to find this time of year. Again, offer to remain foster but ask for placement help.

Ditto I have 4 cats and people are always like FOUR? ugh... then I explain there used to be a 4:2 cat to human ratio. :confused2:

We are at 7:3 ratio (technically 7:5 but toddler and infant don't count quite yet) so most definitely outnumbered here. People give me "the look" when I tell them we have 7 cats, but I tell them it's not like I went out and got 7 cats one day. You add 1 here and 2 there in the span of 14 years, they add up! o_O
That orange one! And I'm in LI! I'm a sucker for orange kittens and I would offer to foster them in a heartbeat, except the reason why I'm at home is to take care of an infant... :confused2:

Best of luck with them. I find kitten seasons both adorable and heartbreaking, and this time of the year all the shelters and rescues are filled to the brim with kittens...

Just got off the phone with North Shore. On the waiting list. Have to handle them and get an age and weight. I can estimate weight and age.

Update:
I have possibly found homes for 3 out of the 5 kittens.
Question is, how do I take them? Mom is around, and they are skittish.
The people want to come by on Friday. HELP!!!!!

Don't! Sounds like they are not socialized and ready. Sending them to homes now will almost certainly lead to bad experiences and not good outcomes. People will pass off to another house and another (each time reinforcing instability) or bring them back to you or drop at the most convenient shelter. Please reach out to a rescue group (or even a rescue resources group on FB) to get help preparing them for a positive future.

Seriously. I am not trying to be dramatic or scare you. I am heavily involved in rescue and see this sort of thing go by too often. There are too many bad outcomes here (ever realize how many kittens are euthanized due to scratching a kid?) if you proceed.

Have you had them to the vet? Checked for FIV?

I work with the person who wants to take them. Have known him for about
12 years. But, they may not be ready to leave mom.
I will wait, but after I have their trust, then take them?

I can’t even handle them, mom is around. I can only pet one of them when they are eating.

From your description, I would say that either they are not old enough to leave mom (though usually they should be weaning off or weaned off by 2-4 months). But the more likely scenario is that they are feral and having never been exposed to human contact like a pet would will need to be properly trained.

I agree with @TooPatient you might want to reach out to professionals

If they aren't able to be handled, they are not adoptable. They need to go to a rescue where they can be fostered and socialized. If they aren't socialized, the only alternative is to trap them, get them spayed/neutered, and release them back where they were found.

Please call the rescues I linked earlier. I think you need the pros to guide you.

You are right. Will call the animal league again tomorrow.

Thanks, PintoBean,
I’m going to look them up.
