Hey everyone, been searching the forums for awhile and decided to get an account and make my post. Planning on proposing in the next couple months and starting to get serious with my ring search. First I want to do something different so I am planning on going with a yellow diamond. I found this 1.5 yellow oval for $8400. Seems like a good deal...thoughts? Have seen many different settings but leaning towards colerless half moons on each side with or without a halo and platinum setting. Maybe trilliants? Would love some input or advice. Thanks in advance!! I also attached the GIA report!

Sorry I can't help with the centre stone, coloured stones really are out of my league! However, good on you for going for something a bit different from the average colourless round diamond! Has your fiance mentioned a preference for coloured stones? Also, I think an oval with half-moon sides will look amazing. I think I've seen something like that on here before, I'll see if I can dig it up :)

Hmmm, by no means a colored stone expert but the faceting pattern does not look very distinct which in a lot of stones
means leakage. Is there a good return policy? I think you need to see if for youself. The price seems pretty low too which
usually means something. If it is from a trusted vendor then I suggest you order it and see it before you have it put
in a setting.

If you havent been to this website I suggest you check out some of the stones/settings he has.

katrinab: I have talked with her a little and basically got the ok that she likes the yellow, her words were she like uniqueness as long as its still classy. I feel like that would apply ha! Also I love Kaleigh's ring...thats exactly what I am going for. I need to see if I can get the ratio from her of half moons to the oval.

tyty333: Funny you said that and I should have mentioned that in my orignal post but I actually bought this on Monday at Lebeish because they had there 25% off cyber Monday sale. I made a quick decision because of the deal and the fact they have a 30 day return policy. It actually should arrive on Monday so hopefully it will look super yellow!

Does anyone know a good ratio for center to side stones?

Hey,

Good choice of going for something different than the usual, but yes ask you girl if she is fine with the color diamond or else you will be wasting your time and money.

I also liked the concept of going with half moon side diamonds for the setting.

Price looks ok to me since the diamond has been cut to keep weight and concentrated less on the polish and symmetry.

I will suggest you to " Check with your Girl? "

Goodluck :loopy:

After talking with her and still trying to be sneaky about it I have definetly got the go ahead on the colored diamond. Her sister who has similar styles was totally on board and my girlfriend sent me about 8 different rings she liked to help guide me and about half had yellow diamonds so I think im picking up on the hint! :wink2:

Are there any certain things I should specifically look for when I get the diamond or at this point is color the most important?

What a refreshing choice. I'm glad you confirmed that she is in-favor of something unique.

As real estate is about location-location-location, colored diamonds are about expertise-expertise-expertise. There are many, many diverse details and differences in these gemstones, even among those of similar grade/description.

In my opinion choosing a dealer/advocate with proven colored diamond experience, inventory and sources should be your top priority. Such a jedi will be able to work with your budget and wishes to pair you with best available option, among the many that are out there.
