First time poster. Seeking advice

Sounds like what I said above about mall jewellery store sales staff only stating that colour and clarity are of any concern if a person is looking for quality. Well done on biting your tongue back at your friend!
Was spot on. Kept making a big deal on VVS1. I just kept thinking "well is there a nicer VS1?"
Figure he's trying to get rid of the stone.

Wouldn't surprise me if that stone has been sitting in inventory longer than the store would like. And given that it's a VVS1 stone, his commission would likely be very high given that B&M chain stores here in Australia charge even more for VVS1 stones than they do on overpriced I1/I2 stones

I'm pretty sure that is the worst stone I have run through the HCA tool...

That is the worst result I've seen from a stone on HCA...:sick:

:whistle:And really, its worse than a 6 because it got excellent for spread... like a really large cow patty is impressive for its size alone... :naughty:

It's a big ole turd.

Was it a low low price of 18k too?

emb, now I'm curious as to how much your friend's store wanted for it...

Not comfortable saying but let's say you guys aren't far off
As in 18 isn't far from what they were asking/willing to settle for

Not surprised at that. That's probably after a discount that they gave to you to try and lure you in that it was a good deal.

Exactly right

Hum, the blue nile is a 2.3 HCA with all very goods. There are better diamonds out there, but it is a good price. It is hard to find a diamond at BN with less than 80 for lower girdle, and this one has a 75.

You could do better; you could do worse. I'd keep looking, but realistically it is probably better than 95% of BM store diamonds. It would be akin to settling...

I would think you would want at least one excellent on the HCA

@whitewave

At MTV price point (~12k), you think I'll be able to snag an excellent?

But keep looking does sound right. Foolish to think it gets found on first whim

I'd personally go down a little in size to get a better cut diamond to stay at your price point. There is
Nothing wrong with an excellent cut super idea 1.3 carat

This shows the difference in size between the 1.33 and the 1.5 you posted from BN:

The difference between the 1.38 whiteflash diamond (my personal choice, excellent stone) and the 1.5 BN diamond:

This one scores 1.3 HCA Blue Nile
1.56 carat G VS2 https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD08525722 would want someone to double check the inclusions.
$14,905

The inclusions are quite hard to pick up in the video. I think this one will be eye clean. Not quite WF H&A, but still very well cut.

The GIA report says that the inclusions are under the table, yet I can spot what looks like a crystal out on the girdle at around 8 o'clock (I don't think that is a reflection of the crystal that GIA says is under the table).

Personally, the 1.38 WF ACA floats my boat more than the BN 1.56 Sig Ideal Round. The extra $2k saving can go towards a very nice setting for that WF stone.

There is a dark inclusion on the girdle that you can see in the video. I'd want another opinion on it:

I agree that I like the WF stone better.

whitewave, there is a natural on the girdle according to the GIA report. That could be what the inclusion on the girdle is.

Going to go see some more stones today. After yesterday's experience though, given what pricing is going to look like, other than seeing the stones in person, I don't see much of an advantage to BM over the online PS-friendly vendors.

Prices are comparable, then when you add selection, no hassle, and sales tax, it gets tough to argue.

Will report what I see with some reports but thinking of slightly increasing budget so I can get both the right stone and make it over into 1.5 ct territory.

Though I'm starting to move toward realizing better deals are to be had by coming up just short of 1.5 as the mentality I have of crossing into the 1.5 threshold is priced in

You have to watch out for stones that should be a 1.48 but were cut to retain weight to make that 1.5 mark. It's an issue.

So really, you probably are better off at 1.4 or 1.55 and not 1.5 (I mean, highly dependant on the stone itself).... it's a "dirty" little trick...

Saw 2 more. Will plug into HCA tool once home.

1.4 H VS2, wisp inclusions, 60 table 61 depth

1.57 H VS1 GIA excellent 60 table 60 depth

Appears to be a beautiful diamond. BN has an easy 30 day return policy if you don't like it.

Put it on hold before it gets poached
