is there such thing as a diamond that hits you in the eye like a flashlight? lol i think im insane.

Optimum lighting and a clean, well-cut diamond can result in astonishing fire.

I doubt many people have witnessed this feast for the eyes.

Oh, and I have no idea whether or not you are insane.

One day, I hope to achieve this feat. Im not sure If I will achieve it with my girlfriends engagement ring though. I paid $1500 bux for a 1/2 ct and Im not sure if I like it. Great! :)

If you are not happy with the diamond you bought can you return it for a refund?

You can achieve a diamond with superb fire for that price.

Good cut is much more important than color, clarity or even size IMHO.
I've seen lots of under 1/2 carat stones with superb fire.

At the top of this screen click on PRICES.
Then select Search by Cut.
Select:
Excellent -Excellent
.45 - .55 carat
H - J
VS2 - SI2
AGS and GIA only

It found 31 diamonds from $820 to $1,330.
Change specs as you see fit.

These diamonds will hit you in the eye like a flashlight.

I bought a VS2, G color. EX Polish, EX symm, EX cut. .59 ct. 1.4 on HCA, But Ive only looked under normal light with it. Not "maximum light" any suggestions on the type of light?\

The smaller the light source the better for fire.
Tiny halogens up on a black ceiling would be very fire-inducing.

Many stores have excellent light for fire-watching, Costco, Home Depot and many restaurants.
Actually the best lighting I've ever enjoyed was in a 99 cents store.

Also on a sunny day under a tree that lets little spots of sunlight through is wonderful if the sun does not shine directly on the diamond, though the fire is more a blend of softer colors than blow your head off bright colors.

yes.. and leaves you blinded for a few seconds afterward. Table glare?

To see fire, you need to get the diamond into spot lighting -- like the yuse in high end kitchens and bathrooms, or in Costco

-- or you need to take it into the bright sunlight.

In most lighting environments I find that brightness and contrast are the dominant optics I see from my diamond. Fire is much more rare.
