F&I, Love that silver!

The reason why pictures didn't show up is that you had '&' symbol in the file name. I renamed the files so everyone can enjoy.

F&I,

Thanks so much for sharing a bit of your life and some of your jewelery! Your collection is beautiful.

Do you wear these any of these pieces ever or are they just for viewing?

I liked how you used the Scrabble tiles to show the relative decorative sizes of your pieces. Were you thinking in scale or in an architect's mind frame?

Did you get them all from the same place that you mentioned in your description?

Ah, the scrabble tiles - serve two purposes - scale & numbers that correspond w/ description for insurance purposes. I love scrabble also - I think the most fun is challenging people to question your words!

Not any from the same place - well maybe a couple. It's not that easy to find. The Arts & Crafts jewelry was all handwrought & produced in limited supply. The Taxco, Mexico jewelry was mostly of higher silver content & very heavy - much of it was melted down during the crazy Hunt silver scam for cash.

Nope, rotate them in & out of the safety deposit box & wear on a daily basis. Some more than others. And, it depends on my mood & attire.

A small showing of Danish Moderne - ca 1960-1975.

My favorite artist - Sigi - taxco, mex - ca 1950-1965. I love sculptural jewelry w/ stones.

And more Sigi - I love 3 dimensional planes as well.
These are more from the 1950's

Hey Fire and Ice. BEAUTIFUL!

Yeah, I had an East Asian Studies professor in college who was such an interesting person. She was sort of like a middle aged hippie. She always had these beautiful scarves that she wore draped around her neck, but then she always had a sophisticated Jackie O. air to herself. And she wore a lot of silver jewelry. I remembered when she brought her husband and daughter India (cool and unique name) to visit some of us (the American students from the college) in China. She would take us on trips and she would suggest "shopping." I got some jade on my trip, and we also went silver hunting with her. I always chuckle to myself when her husband and daughter were like, "no, not again, no more shopping for scarves and silver jewelry." She was a wonderful professor and when I come across siver and/or scarves, I think of her. I guess my husband says the same when I go around looking at jewelry sometimes. He wonders why I like to look so much when I'm not that really interested in buying anything. I guess diamonds are a girl's best friend!

And I guess in your case, silver is your best friend. Boy, those pieces were quite the artwork that I wish I had.

Oh...f&i...just thought I should let you know I will be joining you in Virginia. Connecticut was just too far away for keeping tabs on you. What county did you say you are in ;-)?

Hah! I'm headed to Connecticut in August. We pick up our new addition to the family (dog) in New Haven.

Well...I believe we will own the house in Connecticut *and* the house in Virginia during August, but I'm not sure where I'll be when you come through. What kind of dog are you getting? I assume it is a puppy since you must travel for it. Once s/he has gone home with you and gotten accustomed to life, you are invited to our new house in Virginia. We have a pool and our Lab will be able to swim somewhere other than Long Island Sound in winter! (Dogs are only allowed at our beach in the winter, so his swimming is usually among ice floes.)

I must offer my condolences on the loss of your other dog. I wasn't reading Pricescope at the time due to being in utter chaos. I have lost dogs and every time I think I will never, ever own one again. It's just too painful to lose them. Then I do it again!

Hugs,
Deb

PS-I work in New Haven although I live a full hour's drive away! Who has this puppy for you?

F&I, I don't recall ever getting the full impact of your bio until tonight. Wow! I've always thought you were such a neat lady.

Holy smokes, AGBF, how in the world are you? Please tell me more about your new house. Would love to hear about it.

You know where to find me.

Thanks Lisa - Is your house finished? Are you able to enjoy that porch yet?

Hi, Lisa! I actually do NOT have your e-mail address at the moment because the computer I used to use was unplugged when we started to have our old house fixed up! I have been using other computers, but unless someone e-mails me, I don't have his address stored on the computer. (I don't use web-based e-mail. My address book stays on one computer!)

Fire&Ice, I am thinking of you as I sit here-still in Connecticut-typing. I wonder how far away you are right now! This is the Big Weekend for you to pick up your new pup! I am very happy for you :-).

I have only two words for you: POST PICTURES!!!!

Deb

PS-You asked in another thread if my daughter was still playing cello. Thank God, yes!!! She had already started (and then given up) piano, clarinet, and saxophone. She has stuck with the cello for 4 years, now, and is actually a pleasure to hear practice! (The first few years were a punishment for which no crime had been invented!) To my delight, she has ALSO asked to resume piano lessons! She was really good at the piano and I was sorry when she stopped. I am happy she is interested again. But in our house when one takes lessons on an instrument he must practice regularly. She has practiced cello daily all summer (and also spent three hours a day, five days a week in a string music program). If she promises to practice two instruments, she will. She's a great kid :-).

We had a lovely time in New Haven. And, even managed to dodge the Hurricane. Our new addition is a sweetheart. My old guy took to her immediately. It was his lucky day when we returned w/ "Carly". We ate at a great restaurant near Yale called "Zinc". They had a Jazz festival in the green. We were in heaven.

The traffic was horrendous. I don't know how anyone stands it up there.

Glad your daughter is still into the Cello!

..and the pictures are? Don't tell me you haven't taken any!!!

Deb

F&I, no, and yes.

We are hoping that we are accurate by estimating that we are about 6 weeks away from completion. Weeks! I can *almost* taste it. I know that I do see that dim light through the cracks.

Re: Porch - We have already begun to enjoy the porch as soon as it was complete enough to do so!
2.gif
All it took was a deck and the doorway. The stairway going up it was a total bonus.
9.gif
Once it became complete with railings, oh boy, the enjoyment was complete. Now near actual completion of the house, I can honestly say we have enjoyed many, many meals and beverages out there as we work on the house. Once the house is finally completed, it will have long been broken in.
2.gif
Heck, we may just spend more time out there than inside.

Thanks for asking.

F&I-

Where is the picture of your dog?

Deb

I posted a pic in diamond hangout. I think it's on the second page. She's quite the doll & continues to fill my heart. She is such a clown. She reminds me of my Ace (my constant little buddy waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge). Come to find out she is directly from the same line. Thanks for inquiring!

I just read your story fully on a rainy day F&I.

You seem to be very fortunate and have a balanced and

life.

My first ever job in the jewellery trade in 1974 was working at a store called Silverado, and it and an associated importer bought goods in from Mexico. I sometimes packed wholesale orders of similar pieces.

Yes, I am blessed & thankful for it.

In 1974, some of the Maestreos were still alive. It was the tail end of the great Taxco school. They still produce today. Unfortunately, the designs are reproductions - little new & inspiring designs. Quality not as good. Some exceptions are the Los Castillo house.

Curious if you have any pieces. Some of the signed silver pieces by the Taxco Masters (William Spratling, etc.) command more money than a medium range carat diamond.

For anyone who wants to see your dogs, here are more exact directions:

Go to Diamond Hangout. Locate the thread entitled, "What's your mascot? Meet ours". On page two of the thread the 10th and 11th pictures down are of fire&ice's dogs. (And very cute they are, f&i. Congratulations on the new addition!)
