Dear PS'ers,

Thanks to all the learning from the wealth of knowledge that's on this forum and the help I received, I've settled with a diamond which I like. Now I have to decide on the ring setting to put it in. It is 1.7 ctw RB H diamond at JA that I am looking for the setting for.

I am drawn more towards the Pave style although there are one or two solitaire settings that I like as well. I am not a fan of the settings that hide the diamond from sides and also the kinds where the band rises up on approaching center stone (cathedral kind). I also am trying to avoid thick bands as I feel, they will make the diamond look smaller. Most pave listed on JA are limited to 1.5 ctw diamond. Given the size of the diamond, and these parameters, the choices aren't that many - still enough to confuse the heck out of me.

I initially liked this (https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...rincess-cut-diamond-enagement-ring-item-58714) but having seen this setting in reality, I felt that side stones were too small and the ring looked nothing like the image on their website and the metal on band around the side stones dominated the band and not the side stones.

Now I am looking at :
1. https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/platinum-perfect-pave-engagement-ring-item-55406
2. https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/platinum-pave-countour-engagement-ring-item-58987
3. https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...ch-cut-pave-diamond-engagement-ring-item-1301
4. https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...e-edge-lotus-basket-engagement-ring-item-9309

I would love to have your opinion and recommendations on these or any others you like from their website for this diamond. Among these 4, I am most drawn to #1 but it also has a thicker band which makes me afraid might make diamond look smaller relative to other settings. It would be great if someone who has seen the setting or something close to that may ease that concern or confirm it.

Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks !

How come no one has any preferences/opinions? Anyone?

For what it's worth, I like your choice too. The band tapers toward the diamond which I think is done to accentuate the stone, I also prefer the channel set diamonds in the band, very secure setting, but in the end it's your choice. They're all pretty, but my personal taste is something simple, and the practical side of me worries about getting soap and gunk trapped in the side stone of the other settings.

I like this setting but since you dont...

Now I am looking at :
1. https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/platinum-perfect-pave-engagement-ring-item-55406 This would be my favorite out of your second set of choices
2. https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/platinum-pave-countour-engagement-ring-item-58987 This one is ok...its just so thin

3. https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...ch-cut-pave-diamond-engagement-ring-item-1301
Dont like the stones set so far apart and dont like the shape of the prongs on this setting
4. https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...e-edge-lotus-basket-engagement-ring-item-9309
Dont like the line down the middle

Here are two more settings that I like...looks like you may not like cathedral settings though?

if there are settings you prefer that don't say they can accommodate your stone size, ASK JA about it. Chances are they will be able to make the setting for your stone size even though the listing stops at 1.5ct

I like the first one out of all your choices, not a fan of any of the others.

what about these?

Settings are so personal, asking for opinions about style is tricky. Of the initial ones posted, I like this one the best: https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...e-edge-lotus-basket-engagement-ring-item-9309

But truth be told, I like Cathedral style settings vs. settings where it looks--to me--like the prongs are just plopped on the shank of the ring. The lotus basket style on the one I like looks more intentional, to me.

If you're open to solitaires, I like this one: https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...it-prong-solitaire-engagement-ring-item-53315
