If you're worried about budget, skip the Philip Press setting and go for a similar platinum one from Beverley K or Gabriel & Co - both are very well made and much more affordable.

thank you everyone again for your wonderful insights, i really learned alot about e-rings over the last two days - enough to educate my gf and all of her girlfriends. i think i'm going to go with the 1.29ct because i think my gf would be happier with it, which will make me happy, and that's definitely worth more than a few thousand bucks. i also really feel that the AVR coupled with that setting is as special of a ring as i can find, and i wouldn't want to settle for something less and doubt myself years from now.

I will have to say, you made an outstanding choice! I was very tempted by that 1.29 AVR and the only reason I didn't buy it was because it is smaller than my current stone and I thought I might regret that. But it is a beautiful forever size, and I think you will be SO glad you got it instead! Please, please do come back with pictures of the ring! I'd love to see better pictures of that setting, too!
