Well, not new but used.
2009+
Under $30k
AWD
Automatic
Sedan or coupe
Prefer a luxury vehicle

I drive a Cadillac Escalade and I hate it. It squeaks and it thumps. The transmission jerks when I accelerate and decelerate. I only have 44,000 miles on it but it has so many problems. On top of that, I pay the amount of a freaking house mortgage. I want to reduce my payments.

Does anybody have a car they recommend?

I looked at a Honda Accord coupe today and a BMW 3 series. Love the handling of the Accord, love the look and luxury of the BMW.

I'm usually a person that knows what they want and will research every single aspect. But this time around, I really don't know what I want. I'm open to anything. DH is pushing for the BMW, but it's not pulling my heart strings. At least not yet...

So thoughts please?

What about an Audi? My Chicago boyfriend has one (an A4) and I drove it a few weeks ago. It is a great little car!

Of course there is always that 67 stingray convertible we were talking about the other day... :naughty:

Hahah! That's what I forgot to say! I can't do an Audi A4. Awesome cars but my brother and sister that I are everyday drives one!

That I see everyday day

Acura!

Dee*Jay! I didn't see that stingray remark the first time around! You know I'd get one!!!! We are still supposed to ride into the sunset together! Oh and can't forget iLander!

Hey, me too, YT! And I don't do back seats!

Wish i could offer anything, but I haven't had a sedan or coupe for 25 years, since I got taken over by dogs. I bought a VW Passat wagon 2 yrs ago & am completely in love with it, but that doesn't sound like your thing. DH has 2 vintage cars -- one a '63 Maserati, how 'bout one of those??

YT my DH is driving a 5 series BMW he had the 3 series previously. Never a problem and they both drive great. The 3 series is more sporty and handles more like a sports car than his 5. He's been very pleased with both.

I'm no help I have a company car. They get to pick and right now it's a Ford Taurus. Which is actually quite nice not sure I would say buy... But it's a comfortable car. Sits up fairly high for a sedan.

Porsche Panamera, or the plain Cayenne which is $30k less.

After years of driving a Mercedes wagon, we sold it last year and bought a spanking new Subaru Impreza 2012. OMG love it!!! No offence to anyone but we will never buy a fancy German car again. When we were test-driving cars, we had tried out the Merc GLK350 as well as a BMW x3 (the X3 was awesome) but the two cars that hooked us were the Impreza and the VW tdi. The Impreza is not luxurious per se and adjusting to it after the Merc was weird at first but the quality and reliability is just top-notch. The AWD is great in our nasty Chicago winters... it has great gas mileage and we no longer have to pay for premium fuel. I know you want a luxury car and I am recommending a Subaru but I figured I'd mention it as I'm a Merc fan (my dream car is the Merc G class SUV, omg delicious!) and I never thought I'd like a Subaru but I have never regretted this purchase, so... :))

If you liked the Accord but want more of a luxury car I agree the Acura is a good brand to consider.
It's Honda's upscale brand.

I'm a very loyal Honda guy.

I'd steer clear of Mercedes since their reliability is rated low.
I hear Mercedes cars have zillions of complex gadgets.

+1 for the Acura if you aren't happy with the Honda Accord. TSX? TL?

.....I agree with the Acura suggestions. Great cars and in your price range. Plus it doesn't hurt that they look beautiful!

Oh just get a Maybach and a driver then.

I love my 2007 Prius - it's made me so lazy when it comes to pumping gas!

My co-worker has the electric Prius, and it is SWEET!!!! He pumps gas even less than I do!

Thanks heraanderson! The only Acura I like is the TL but the newer ones. I will look into it!

Thanks Laurie! Your DH's cars sounds so sexy! But, I also forgot to mention that I want a car with good gas mileage :) My Escalade gets like 11miles to the gallon. BLECH!

Thanks Mayk! I would totally rather have a 5 series than the 3 series. I want more of a sedan like car but DH is pushing for the 3 series we saw yesterday. Plus, they have no AWD 5 series around my budget remotely close to where I live! Yes, I can increase my budget, and that's what usually happens, but I'm trying to hold my ground this time.

Acura! Those are stunning! And similar enough to Honda's (we have a 2010 Honda civic but will be upgrading to the 2013 honda accord in a few months - those are uber hot too now). fyi - http://automobiles.honda.com/accord-sedan/   but if I could afford the acura, that'd be my choice.

I didn't think they were under 30k or around it even, but i guess so (may be having a discussion about this with DH soon :naughty: )

http://www.acura.com/ModelLanding.aspx?model=TSX (AND - it's a top safety pick which is always huge for me for future kids etc)...

Thanks! I will ask DH if he is willing to go take a look at the Subaru!

I would never get a Mercedes. No offense to Mercedes owners. But they are just not for me. My cousin has a C class and her mom, my aunt, has some kinda of AMG blah blah but they both just don't do it for me.

I want a Honda Accord coupe! The one I saw yesterday was only $23,000 and it was a 2012 with only 1,000 miles on it. Someone had bought it, didn't make the first payment and they had to take it back. The only thing is that it was silver and I want a white car.

No on the TSX, but the TL sounds good :)

Cauk-Gal and Autumnovember, thanks for the TL suggestions!

That's so awesome! I want to go to the gas station as little as possible!

Thanks! Yay for you and your car upgrade! Hope it all goes well!

A lot of people keep saying TSX, so maybe it won't hurt to take it for a test drive.

Did a search for both cars and got nothing in my area!! Why are there no cars for sale!

This is what DH tells me. He says since I only wash my car every 6 months, (which I disagree!) that if I get a silver car it'll look cleaner longer.

Just chiming in here b/c I'm going to be trading my car in w/in the next few months. My car is silver and it blends into the road, so if you decide on a silver car be sure to drive with the headlights on during the day (unless you get a car with running headlights -then you don't have to think about it). People constantly pull out in front of me. I wondered if it is because my car isn't as visable or if people are just impatient, but when I drive DHs car, it doesn't happen as often.

As far as Subarus go, if you are interested in one, there is a Subaru forum where people talk about the typical issues that they have with their cars. Both DH and I have had our headgaskets replace/rebuilt (whatever it is that they do), my transmission had to be rebuilt, and Subarus burn oil, so you have to be good about getting regular oil changes. They do go forever so if you're looking for a long-term car, you'll get 200K+ miles with it...but, they only get about 20 MPG if they're AWD and require regular tire rotation. They are the type of car you buy, knowing it will need specific things replaced at certain times, but will be a part of the family for 10 years.

I am actually going to trade mine in. It has become too small now that I have two pre-teen boys and I would like to be able to have room for them, a friend for each and my DH and my car is too small. Also, just out of the blue, water started forming on the inside of the windows and we think something happended with a seal and I am not sure what to do. I had hoped to drive it one more year, but now we're thinking two more months.

I loved my Acura TL. I have an Acura RDX now. It's great having the roomy-ness of a small SUV but it's still peppy. I get in the mid to high 20's MPG with this one. I do miss my TL though. I'll probably go back to a TL once the RDX gets older. This is my 3rd Acura and I just love them. They've all been great cars with very low maintenance and they aren't too expensive to maintain. My hubby has a Lexus 430GS and it's a great car but geeze service is expensive on that thing.

Since I get MPG in the 50s it always surprises me that people are happy that what they drive gets MPG in the 20s.

I mean it's fine to say they love their vehicle because of this or that, but then I'd expect them to say ... "in spite of" getting MPG in the 20s.

Whatever you do, if you get a Prius please please don't drive 55 in the left lane.

As for your original question, take a look at the Lexus IS350.
