Hello everyone!

Thanks to all the education I had on this forum after nights of reading, I think i've made my choice over a stone for my fiancée, to put in the center of a halo:

https://www.bluenile.com/fr/en/diamond-details/LD09412005

I like the lonely inclusion, color, shape, size, X factor cut, and good price...

Only am I worried it could have not enough fire or sparkle, and would be terrified if it was not as nice as I wish.

What do the expert think about it?

My fiancée and I thank you all very much!

NB: since I live in Paris France, I can only go through BlueNile that as a european website, to avoid 20% VAT.... so sadly no ASET available...

Honestly, to me it looks like a nicely cut cushion with good light return under the table, nice contrast, and clear distinct facets.
I* think it would be a pretty lively stone. (get some other opinions though)

There could be a chance that its not eye-clean depending on how eagle eyed you are (to my some what older eyes it would probably be just fine).
Can you ask BlueNile if its eye-clean and at what distance.

Does the European BN have the same return policy as the U.S. if it ends up not meeting your standards? I only know of the U.S. policy and I'm not sure if it
is the same or differs.

I love it

Hand shots when she gets it, please!!

Thank you for encouraging me!
BN says it is eye clean, but Not sure I should trust them...

I also have someone telling me that medium fluorescence on a G-color stone is a big problem. It usually causes haziness... What is you opinion about it?

the policy for BN is the same here.

Who is telling you that? Anyone who is knowledgeable about diamonds (and isnt trying to sell you a stone)?

From what I've seen/read med fluro should have no impact. Only at levels of Very Strong may have some negative impact but
it is rare.

From the GIA page on Fluorescence( note the last sentence).

What impact does fluorescence have on the appearance of a diamond?

GIA studies show that for the overwhelming majority of diamonds, the strength of fluorescence has no widely noticeable effect on appearance. In the GIA Fluorescence Study, it was found that the average person could not make a distinction between a diamond withfluorescence and a diamond without.

In many instances, observers prefer the appearance of diamonds that have medium to strong fluorescence. In rare cases, some diamonds with extremely strong fluorescence may appear hazy or oily; fewer than 0.2% of the fluorescent diamonds submitted to GIA exhibit this effect

You can read more on it here:
http://4cs.gia.edu/en-us/blog/understanding-diamond-fluorescence/

So, bottom line...no worries with the med fluor.

Well Thank you on that! It was from a "diamant concierge"... who does not work with commission so I trust her. But opinion may vary!

Much more knowledgeable people will reply to you, but that stone doesn't look hazy at all. I have seen one stone in my life that was hazy and milky due to an over abundance of fluorescence. I look forward to seeing your beautiful ring! I think your concierge is wrong.

Thank you for encouraging me!

You need to send her to PriceScope to learn something!:lol-2::mrgreen2:

that is a beautiful diamond. There's nothing hazy about it. How will you set it? Can't wait to see photos!

I love it!!!The stone is beautiful. GIA is the way to go (IMO) Im not sure Blue Nile is the best way to go however ( value wise) In my opinion. You could try Direct Diamond Buy Chicago Diamond District jeweler named Anna) or Diamond Gardens ( NY Diamond District jeweler named Sam) . Both have websites and great quality and IMO better prices. We just upgraded my set and purchased a 3 carat center from DDB and 2.65 carat band from DG. Both in platinum @ excellent prices! I researched and compared and shopped for months before deciding on these two companies. Good Luck - so exciting! I'll post a pic of my new upgraded set IMG_1214.PNG

Medium fluro on a G shouldn't be an issue at all with a VS2. I think you can trust the gemologist.

We like to recommend vendors who we have vetted here through Pricescope and who advertise here. Blue Nile doesn't provide ASET but they have a generous return policy. For round brilliants, we can run the numbers through the HCA tool https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca to exclude anything that is above a 2.

We here don't just go by price but by cut quality.

PS
Fluorescence is a no-no
Again.... in my opinion. I do think you can trust the gemologist but I still am wary on the fluorescence aspect.

Why?

I understand your point about pricescopes " vetted" vendors. I researched probably 15 different vendors before settling on the 2 I mentioned. Excellent documentation and ASET

Geez... just trying to help someone out

:drool:We have many threads here on fluro. Most find it benign and a fun party trick with a black light.

The only "caution" is that for resell, some buyers won't want it. If you don't plan on selling it on the second hand market, this is not a problem.

Brian Gavin has an entire Blue line devoted to diamonds with fluorescence.

We can tell from the photo on Blue Nile that this diamond is not negatively impacted by the fluro, and you get a nice price point because of it.

 Haha! Steady as she goes @whitewave! Someone needs a lesson in florescence;)2 :appl:

Some people might have a legit reason for not wanting fluro (like cultural expectations). I wondered why she might not want fluro.

OP, look at my ring in my avatar. I bought my asscher BLIND!! (Gasp!!) from Blue Nile-- no pictures or ASET.. nothing. Their return policy was so generous, I though it was worthwhile to take a chance.

I had it reset after 5 years into a custom setting by CVB Inspired Design.

Thank you everyone for your interest in my quest!!
I like the stone very much and after reading you I get closer to buy it! So I shall not be afraid of haziness caused by fluo.
I would like to get it as the center of a halo to look alike Tiffany's soleste.
I will definitely share with you the pictures of it!!!

Please buy it before someone else does. And don't forget to come back with pictures

BTW, I just saw that James Allen is running a 25% off special on their settings right now. Not sure what your budget for the Soleste look is
(or what quality you are looking for) but JA has this one. You can look at the close up pictures of the ones they've made to check on the
quality of the setting.

https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...k-double-halo-pave-engagement-ring-item-17845

Edit...I would ask for claw prongs...

I may buy it this weekend, just checking last other options...

For the jeweler you proposed in chicago or NYC, sadly I live in Paris France! And there is a 20% VAT above the US price. So i'd rather stay with bluenile, only website with a european office!

But thanks for all your comments!!

I love flourescence I would try never to buy a stone without it, and I prefer strong to very strong. It looks better in sunlight to me than a diamond without, and this idea of milky and hazy is truly nearly impossible. People mention it but almost no one had ever seen it. I think it’s the best way to go!!!

Personally I love the fluoro on my stone. I find it makes it look so much more interesting in direct sunlight when it starts glowing. I don't think it's something you 'd want to reject out of hand unless either you know it is having an impact on the performance of thay stone, or unless the recipient really doesn't like fluorescence.
