I have been trying to decide which stone to put with these two 4.6mm OEC diamonds for the longest time. I have always been leaning towards this purple spinel because it’s large and gorgeous but was worried it was too dark. Now that it’s set I can see that it is not too dark at all.

I had the ring made by altering a stock setting and it was very inexpensive. It’s a nice heavy, sturdy ring and sits up a little bit higher and is a little bit wider than I’m used to. Some will probably say it has excellent finger coverage but I’m still getting used to it. I think it’s going to be great though.

The 1.33ct spinel is 6.9mm and such a pretty purple and very well cut and sparkles beautifully with blue and pink flashes. The diamonds came out of an old scrap ring that I purchased to in order to repurpose them.

I guess this is my Xmas present! (I might have also purchased a vintage zircon ring too. )

And now for the photos.

Well Merry Christmas to YOU! :mrgreen2: What a fabulous job you did upcycling the stones and mounting (as usual). And that purple spinel is so yummy... just the right tone, IMO. Not dark at all! Enjoy it!!

Wow that’s gorgeous! Love it!

Thank you! In this case the mounting is brand new. Just modified the CAD a bit. I really can’t get over how nice the color is now that it’s set. I think loose stones are hard to understand sometimes.

It‘s beautiful! :kiss2: What a gorgeous purple. I find a lot of purple spinel can have grey in it or just look lackluster but your spinel is just perfect. Definitely the best Christmas gift to yourself.

That is a showstopper!!! Wow! What red stone is in the original ring?

Thanks! It took me a long time to decide but I’m happy with my choice.

The red stone is a very abraded garnet. It was sold as spessartine but I have no idea.

It's beautiful :kiss2: and pairs so well with your lovely diamond bracelet!

It’s such a pretty purple! Enjoy the ring!

@Autumn in New England or anyone else with advice….

My only concern now that I have had a chance to inspect the ring is that the side diamonds are set up very high and I’m not sure there is enough support. They are only held by 3 prongs each. I don’t know if it can be or should be adjusted. I’m not really an expert so what do you think?

You can just see the culet in this photo beneath the petal.

Personally, I actually don't have a problem with the height of the diamonds here (and I typically set everything with as low a profile as possible). It works with the ornate gallery and design. Also, there is a lot of thick goldsmithing... with heavy duty prongs that look very secure. Double check that the diamonds are tight. If so, I wouldn't worry in the slightest. And if they ever do begin to concern you, you can always have your jeweler take a second look!

Amazing ring (though I may be biased because my favourite colour is purple and I love OECs)

What a beautiful ring and the color of that spinel.......just gorgeous!!!

Those little light blops are nice and secured. There was visual care to the set height-it looks harmonious. Also, it's just classic. Beautiful. That spinel is such a nice color, sparkle city! I covet it, as spinel is my favorite, it's a three stone and perfectly proportionate. Trifecta!

Thank you! That’s reassuring. I tend to freak out sometimes and worry. I would hate for those OEC’s to get knocked out.

At least I’m already getting used to the size of the ring. It’s not feeling as overly large or tall to me. And I am so happy that when set the purple spinel looks just the right shade without being too dark.

It’s my first ever 3-stone ring!

Here’s a photo from today in morning light.

Yeah, I love it. This is how it StAaArts...pretty soon it'll be three stones everywhere you look. That's what happened to me, anyways  I didn't even notice until I look back at my saved lists!

So gorgeous! I love the profile!!!

Nope, definitely not too dark! And the size sits wonderfully on your hand. I’m usually the one who’s averse to big rings and it doesn’t bother me visually in the slightest.

That spinel is outrageous! And the 3-stone is just the right outfit for it, love the proportions and finger coverage. What a great ring!

I love your ring!! The purple spinel is gorgeous!

What a gorgeous purple spinel! Your ring came out beautifully, and the size looks fantastic on you :)
