Hi everyone,

Please don''t get mad at my many posts. I tried to find something a little big for the budget range. I think I found it.

Grading Lab: GIA
Measurement: 5.27 - 5.14 x 3.32
Carat weight: 0.74
Cut*: Very Good
Color: E
Clarity: VS2
L/W Ratio: 1.03
Depth%: 64.6%
Table%: 78%
Symmetry: Good
Polish: Good
Girdle:
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None

Not too good but not too bad either. What do you think?

And thank everyone for your help, especially JulieN for searching for those diamonds for me. I appreciate it a lot. Too bad, bluenile does not offer lifetime upgrade.

And the "very thick" girdle is "hiding" excess weight (i.e. you''re paying for weight where it doesn''t help in the size or optical properties of the stone - getting nothing for something

). You can do better. What''s your budget?

Very large table and thick girdle is hiding weight. Did you already state your budget?

And if you are budget conscious do you really need an E?

A well-cut J can looks fabulous. I have a well cut H and it looks so much better than my friend's good cut E.

Thanks so much everyone. Since I''m not an expert so I listen to you and convinced her to go for round cut. Here are two available on jamesallen. I think I get the E color one.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?find=1&cid=130&item=890332

There are images of both on their website. Could you please check them for me. The HCA shows that they both excellent, around 1.5.

Thanks
These are better than the first one you posted, but you could still do better. They are a bit shallow with a slightly too large table. Try to keep the depth between 60-62 and the table between 54-57.

I''m no expert, either, but I''ve been reading these boards and TONS of other stuff about diamonds for about 3 months now. So take my opinion with a grain of salt - I''m sure there are people here who can be more precise/accurate than me.

While the HCA indeed has these stones under 2, the proportions in both cases are a little funny, and indeed, they fall on the very outskirts of the "ideal" range. Remember, the HCA is only a tool to eliminate known bad performers. It really doesn''t take into account enough information to describe how a diamond will actually perform (other than in cases where it can say that based on the 4 inputs alone, it will likely perform badly).

I gather from your links that your budget is about $3,000, maybe a little less. If it were me, I would be looking to put that money toward CUT CUT CUT, with color and clarity far less important (particularly at <1 ct., color and clarity will be very hard or impossible for the eye to detect if the diamond is cut properly). Simply put, you should not be paying for a good E when an ideal H will look far better.

Using the cut search tool here, I''ve found a couple stones you may be interested in:

$2,789.00 - .798 carat G SI1, http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-136241.htm (Expert Selection)

$2,769 - .73 carat I VS1, http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-27548.htm (A Cut Above)

$3,140 - .83 carat H SI2, http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/2526/ (A little more expensive, but this one is a real beauty - just make sure its eye-clean; Tim or Jonathan will let you know, just email or call them and ask - same goes for all SI2 stones, really)

$2,660 - .786 carat H SI2, http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-27613.htm (A Cut Above - nice!!)

And probably my favorite based on your budget and the idealscope images and AGS OOO and H&A pattern:

$2,696 - .737 carat H SI1 http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-26899.htm (A Cut Above)

**Note that all Whiteflash prices shown are with the pricescope discount, which you''ll see if you use the sift tool below.

I could go on and on (tons of nice stones in this range), but I won''t. I''ll leave that to you!

FYI the search I performed here http://www.pricescope.com/sift.aspx was with the following variables:

Shape: Round
Carat: .6 - .99
Cut Rank: Excellent to Excellent
Color: G-K
AGS-0: Include
H&A: Include
Clarity: VS1-SI2
Lab: GIA AGS

Do that and you''ll see you have a large choice of diamonds that I think will look a lot better than these Very Good cuts. (note that many also have ideal/excellent polish and symmetry, which will help too).

I totally agree with the above poster. CUT, CUT, CUT is what makes a diamond look pretty and sparkle.

I would stay with VS1 or VS2, but is there a reason you need an E color?

If you got an H in an amazing cut, it would outshine a mediocre E color cut anyday.

.75 is a respectable size! Go for a great cut and lower the color a bit and you can have it all.

Thanks everyone so far for your patience and input. We decided not to rush so now I have more time to search for a good one. I like what ILikeBond suggested. Unfortenately, I''m not able to afford them now. We started with $1500 budget and slowly jumped up to $2500 and I think that''s how far I can go. I found this one and it''s within our budget. Please look at it for me and let me know what you think.

Here is what Bob at Whiteflash offered me yesterday. It's princess cut. What do you think? I don't know what X-factor is.

http://www.whiteflash.com/xfactor/XFactor-cut-diamond-6.htm
The X-Factor is Whiteflash's princess equivalent to their Expert Selection round stones. Good stuff, and I think a lot of times their expert selections are great values because they sometimes miss the "A Cut Above" designation by just a slight number here or there or whatever.

As far as the round you linked to - I agree, looks nice, but I'd just ask about that knot (I think!) on the AGS Cert diagram, in green.

Good luck!

Oh! - And don't forget you'll get a small savings from whiteflash if you mention that you found them through pricescope.

I''m sorry I''m confused. It''s my fault to place one stone after another. Now I don''t know which one you (Belle and Ellen) refered to. Thanks ILIKEBOND for your explanation. Very interesting. I learn a lot from you guys. Thanks so so much.
