Gorgeous!

I am searching for my very own yellow, too. Do you mind sharing thoughts on your search? where did you look? what did you look for? how did you narrow down your options?

Thanks!
Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. I'm pretty taken by it too!

Now, questions...yes, it is from DBL. (I'm having it set locally though.) David was a sweetie on the phone and got it to me in record time. The pictures on his site, now that I've seen the real stone, are very accurate. I loved the fact that there was a video (probably the selling point actually - it's still out there btw - he hasn't moved it to "sold" yet) of my stone so I could see how the light moves in it. It truly has that I'm-falling-in-it depth and mirrored look.

Kimikocat - I'd like to say I did a lot of research for this purchase but I did not. In the end I was pretty impulsive.

I've looked at as many yellows as I could in jewelry stores (usually asking to see the stone up close, not just in the case), so I felt I had a good idea of what a good yellow radiant looked like. I've read as much as possible here on PS about radiants - yellow especially - and came to the conclusion that "eyes" would be best in this case. The general consensus is that there is more variation in fancy cuts, and that yellows are frequently cut even outside of those loose parameters in order to intensify the color. Again, since I didn't want to stress about this purchase, I relied on my eyes. Given that I wasn't being a slave to crown angles and such, I was looking for the best looking stone for the best value. I feel I got that, and I couldn't be happier. I will tell you though, not all of David's stones are certed. The larger ones are usually, but this one was not. It didn't matter to me. It might matter to you. I felt since the stone was relatively small I could go uncerted. I am after all, going to be wearing a diamond, not a set of proportions.

I did look for a long time at The IceStore, which has loads of yellows, but since they only carry starting from 1 carat and 4000+ on up, it was just more than I wanted to pay, honestly. (They also don't have pictures, and I like to look a LONG time before I start bugging people to send me pics and stuff) I knew I was going to have to go smaller. But hey, it's YELLOW. The stats on the stone are:
COLOR: Natural Fancy Light Yellow
CLARITY: VS1
MEASUREMENTS: 5.35 x 4.73 x 3.23 mm
TOTAL DEPTH: 68.3%
FLUORESCENCE: STRONG BLUE

Oh, as comparison though, I did have a very high-falutin' B&M store in KC email me about the rough price of a 6mm yellow cushion - I'm estimating from my looking that that would be about 1.15 carat, they said between 8 and 10,000. I nearly coughed up a lung.

I am still deciding on what to do with it. I have an engraved platinum band with diagonally set princess cuts on each side - I could put it in that in a yellow gold head, OR...I have a heavy 18 k yellow gold band that could be modified to take it and have the entire thing yellow gold. I'm still fretting about that...

decisions decisions!!

That''s gorgeous. I had a feeling it was a DBL stone because they''re pictures are so extraordinarily sparkley. Hey, is there really a "Laruen" behind DBL? Or is that just the name? I''ve always been curious about that.

Anyways, enjoy your fabulous stone and the great value it was.

I think there is...I THINK it''s a reference to his daughter? Don''t know where I got that from though, it''s just floating in my brain...

Gorgeous! I love the diamonds on DBL. One day I want a yellow or pink. Congrats on a beautiful stone. I know you will love wearing it!

very , very pretty! I love it, congrats!

That is a beautiful stone! I love FLY, too!

GORGEOUS stone Karen!!!

Lovely stone! David has such a fantastic variety of diamonds to choose from. Can''t wait to see it set :)

Your process was so "zen." Hats off! I wish I could be that decisive. I am a lot like you -- I need to see lots of pictures and I hate bothering vendors before I am ready -- so I''ve been visiting DBL a lot, looking at David''s photos.

When I first started looking I went to a B&M too, because they had two beautiful yellow diamond rings in stock. They quoted me a price similar to yours. I tried to negotiate and then fled.

Since I didn''t want to pay the premium, I started to look online and realized that it is really hard to figure out what you want from some photographs and a cert. So I haven''t bought anything even though I started to look in late July/early August. I said I wanted to start making my ring in October and look, it''s almost November!

Back to your setting question -- Can you "set" the stone in both mountings and upload photos?

By description I am leaning towards the princess side stones/engraved shank, because I like the color contrast of white/yellow. But I''d love to see your all yellow option too!

Well, I''m probably not that talented, and I''ve already decided to have the stone put into the platinum setting. But I''ll see what I could do to show it to you. I have some old pics of it with the old, round diamond in it. You''ll be able to get the idea.

Did you actually see my stone at DBL? It is out under the "Sold" section now. I mention this because it has a MOVIE, which I confess to watching several times a day.

What can I say? It''s currently "in the shop" and I miss it!!

Hi Karen!

Oooh, the yellow in a plat setting will be beautiful! I will hold my breath to see the finished product. Let''s see the old pics anyway!

I did see your stone at DBL! I confess that I have actually watched your video -- probably while you were negotiating to buy the stone -- a few times and really enjoyed it. I think you made a great purchase and I really want to see handshots soon....!!!

Oh that is pretty.

That huge picture helped me see the engraving detail. I think you''re going to be rocking one classy ring!

Can''t wait to see the finished product. When does it come back to you?

Well, before I called the jeweler to tell him to "STOP!!!", it was going to be ready on the 25th. And it may still be, although since I will be out of town I wouldn''t be able to pick it up until the 28th, so...

I was going to go with a modified tiffany type head that would have sat on the bridge, but after some more consideration, have decided that sawing out the bridge (and losing all that pretty platinum...wahhh!!) I will have a basket type mounting driven down to the where the bridge was, in 18 k yellow. It will make the diamond sit lower so those pesky corners don''t catch as much, and it will catch the eye more with more yellow gold.

I will be sure and post pics! And how about how banged up that band is!? Wow! I didn''t realize. It almost looks as if it needs to be re-engraved. I''m not sure exactly what kind of platinum that is, but I know I''ve never had it polished and it has never gotten that "grey" patina; it''s always been bright and shiny. And I do so love the weight of platinum. Yummy!

Oh I see what you asked him to do. I think you''ll be happy you chose to go with the lower head in yellow gold -- did you do 18K? -- in the long run, but it''s sad to lose that little bridge w/ the pretty engraving. Maybe you can ask the jeweler to engrave your basket. I don''t know if you''ve seen my ering? The basket is milgrained and engraved so it matches the rest of the shank, which is engraved and pretty similar to yours.

Why don''t you ask him to touch up the engraving while the ring is there? Can''t be much money and wll help the final product look that much more fab.

Karen -- Forgot to say that I LOVE your quote. Also love the delicious irony of findin git on a jewelry website...

I''ve actually been looking to replace that quote. I''ve had it for a while. I''ll have to find something equally pithy....

Oh gosh, I can''t help you with that. But I think you know where to look.

How did you like working with DBL? I haven''t tried David for a stone yet, only browsed. I like all my options, posted in the other thread, but there always seems to be something not quite right :)

David was very nice. But I really didn''t do much "working" with him since I really knew what I wanted. Seemed more than a bit pleasant though.

And now, finally, here are a few pics. The new head is 18K yellow. The stones all look kinda dark in one pic - they aren''t IRL. I take terrible pictures is what it is. I will apologize up front for my hands. I''m 46 and have that aging redhead thing going on. Damn freckles. They''re cute when your 20 and just look like big age spots at my age. Grrrr. Oh well. What can you do? Oh, and ring size is 5.5, for reference. It''s good for my wallet that I have smaller hands and can get away at least, with smaller diamonds. Of course...bigger would be OK too.

2.gif

Anyway, 3 pics...(at least that''s the plan right now)

Looks like we may only get 2: my photo editing software set one pic to 101kb. grrr. Let''s see if this one is too big...ah, it''s not.
Apologies...hands...stones not dark....etc...

ksinger-your ring is gorgeous!!! Turned out lovely :)

kimikocat-I''ve worked with David on about a dozen purchases and always had a very good experience! The 5 stone radiant ring I posted in from DBL :)

Hi, your ring turned out lovely and I love the yellow stone!! Isn''t it amazing how when you look into them it seems like you can see forever and there is no end?

Absolutely beautiful!!!!

I think its beautiful! Wow!

Wow, it turned out gorgeous, congrats Karen!

Spectacular! Love it and it looks beautiful on you!

I hope my next ring will be a yellow radiant 3 stone or 5 stone. Just got my e-ring though so that might be a while...

Congrats again and enjoy
