Ok as dreaded I went in for my final fitting. This was the first time that one of the shop people did not lace up my dress (one of my bridesmaids who came with me to see the bustle did it). It was so nerve racking! We couldnt get the dress to lay right. the first time we did it we pushed everything up and it looked horrible (i was spilling out the top). after that we tried pushing everything down and my chest ended up looking concave (slight exageration).

FInally the lady came over and fixed it and it looked good again but I am still so worried. That woman isnt going to be there the day of. what if we cant get it right?

Anyway I have some pics to show the bustle and also the veil I decided on. The only difference between the veil i want and this one is that my veil will not have any kind of lining. The veil in the pic has a thick white lining. Unfortunately we put away the camera before we got the dress situated so none of the pics are a very nice/flattering image of me in the dress (IMO) Not saying they look horrible. I have just seen the dress look better. Atleast I thought I had...

Oh one more note. the dress, for some reason, is still too long. they are cutting another inch off it. I had really considered wearing crinoline or buying a hoop but when i tried them on, though they looked nice, they just made the dress a lil too puffy. and, considering we are outside for the ceremony and then in a small wine cellar afterwards, I opted for less poof. In these pics the dress hasnt been steamed and the crinolines underneath are lying pretty smooshed so the dress will be puffier once its ready to go (and the weight from the excess length is removed. Anyway...here are some pics

I will start with the bustle pics. In the last one you can see what I mean by concave looking chest =)

Here are two very similar pics of the dresses front view with the veil i picked out (not 100% decided upon). The dress looks a lil flat here but i was assured it would be puffier after the steaming and such. The veil is blocking it but you can kind of see what I mean about the arm fat and such sticking out a lil too much for confort. Hello Gym...

Here is one to give kind of a front and back view. All my "stuff" is pushed up big time in this photo...ick!

Concave chest? Gwyn, dear, you''re insane. Your chest looks quite bodacious to me.

And last I have so pics of the veil. I desperately need a tan (i plan to either go fake tanning or do airbrush before the wedding) I have a feeling that will make me feel a lil better about the lil fat bits that stick out. I think I am the whitest person in southern california!

I thing I will have the veil underneath my hair for the actual event and not on top. I am going to bring it with me and test out which ways look good. I kind of like the idea of keeping the veil on throught the night or most of it and i think if it was just tucked up under my hair it wouldnt bother me much. what do you all think of the length? I personally like long veils but I am so short I didnt really want a long one to be wearing me (if you know what I mean) with my shoes I am about 5 foot 3.

I hate to say it because I am totally second guessing everything now LOL. I was such a good bride (i thought) feel in love with the first venue FI and I went to look at. This was the first dress I tried on. I did try on others but I simply loved it. Now I am totally freaking out about it. I thought I knew what I wanted to do with my hair, now I have no idea! I originally intended for it to be something like these pics below. The back would look like the top left pic. The side would look like the top right (sans flower). the veil would be tucked underneath like the bottom right (but with two layers) and the bottom left flower would sit on top of my chigon/bun thing in the center of my head(not to the side) now...I dont know I am thinking the veil should go on top. and if i do that i shoudl scratch the flower right. and then if i do that, when i take the veil off, it will look so plain. THen i look at the dress, which i loved for it''s simplicity, and I think that now it may be too plain...

Maybe Im just freaking out...clearly I am ... ok I will walk away from PC and breath a bit. come back and make decisions later.

LOL I know my chest itself isnt concave but it looks like I needed cups sewed or something to lift them up so they showed through the top of the dress. If that makes sense... I know alot of people do this its just that the first few times i tried on the dress, it did the lifting for me (since its a corset top). I think it was just the way that it was laced at the time that made it look all sunken in. I dont have a good head on pic of what it looked like, just that first side pic where it looks like im not filling out the top of it. Most of the other pics show me filling it out better since we relaced it and pushed things up.

I guess I am just worried that, without one of the shop people there to do the lacing, the dress wont look like what it had/what i was expecting.

I am sure I am just being over critical... time to stop the whining and start the wining

.

ETA I just looked up "wining" and it is actually a word (I did not know this). Though apparently it refers to the fermentation process and not the drinking of wine process I used it for. Oh well.

ETA Ooh I stand corrected. #11 in the definition: "to drink wine."

Gwyn, I think you look lovely! And I can't see any "arm fat" whatsoever, I think the mirror was playing tricks on you. You're going to be a beautiful bride, so please take a deep breath and believe that it's all going to be okay!

Now, for getting into the dress, can you try having your bridesmaid practice lacing you into the dress another time or two before the wedding, especially at the salon? If they're still playing with the hem of the dress you're probably going to need to try it on again, so it would be a great time to get tips from the bridal shop people on proper lacing. At one shop where I tried on dresses, the woman mentioned that there is a very specific method for lacing corset dresses and that if I bought one I should make sure to bring a couple people with me to fittings to learn how. If that's not possible...were you standing straight when your bridesmaid laced you into the dress? It might help if she laces you halfway -- to just below your chest -- and then you bend straight forward from the waist (so your upper body is as parallel as you can get it to the floor) and have her finish lacing. Then stand back up and she can tighten/adjust. This is a tip they always give when bra-shopping, so I'm just wondering if it might help a little with corseting, too. Apparently it makes your chest fall more "naturally" and look its best.

Maybe Pandora or someone else with more corset experience will chime in?

Umm, not right? It''s gorgeous, Gwen. It''s such a beautiful dress and so flattering on you. Hoorway for choosing such a perfect gown. Do a few pratice runs with your bridesmaids/mom/whomever before the wedding (pick the woman in your life who always looks put together) if it will make you feel better and rest assured you''ve picked a fantastic dress.

Seriously, stop stressing girlfriend! I too am a bit OCD and... well, there are better things to focus on for your wedding day. All of the things that are bothering you are not blatantly obvious in the least (I mean, at all!). You''re going to be stunning

Gwyn, I think Octavia has it nailed. And I think I see what you mean when you say your chest was concave...I think the girls just aren''t sitting correctly in the dress cups. Don''t stress out about all this stuff. Do pay attention to all those details since they''re important to you, but don''t over-obsess about them. It''s true, most other people won''t notice any of the small things you do.

Gwyn,

You look amazing in your dress. If you are worried about getting it laced up properly, be as anal as I would probably be....get a tape measure and have a friend measure the top, middle and lower spacing of the corset back after it is in the position that you like the best and use it on your wedding day. This will help prevent you from stressing out too much if it takes too much time to keep adjusting the back to get you in it correctly. Or you can go all out crazy and measure each one

Your girls look perfect to me. My girls are envious just looking at your picture.

Gwyn - stop apologizing for yourself - you look gorgeous! I can understand the anxiety in getting the bodice fitted, but the dress looks wonderful on you!

I think it looks great! Please don''t worry about it!

You look amazing in your dress-it totally suits you and you will look to die for on your wedding day!

Thanks you guys, you def know how to make a girl feel better. I am feeling a little better about the dress decision. and for the most part i will have my bouquet and that isnt plain or simple at all. So maybe that will bring it together a little and give it some color or something. And i will have some jewelry on too. Though I was planning to just wear pearls, they will still add something.

I am going to have my mom come with me (since she will then be in town) when i go to pick it up again. We are going to be doing this about 4 days before the wedding. I will retry on the dress to check the length (If it is still off then she can hem it in 10 mins or so). Then steam the dress. My mom is pretty good at talking to people and explaining likes and dislikes so I have a feeling she will demand to stay there with the shop peoples help til she knows how it laces up and such.

I feel a little more confident that with more people''s help we should be able to do a better job. It was a little akward with just the two of us since I had to hold the bodice up a certain way and keept moving when she tugged on the strings LOL. I will have to try out the tip you suggest Octavia, that may make a difference as well though it laces from the top down not bottom up so I am not sure if that matters.
