Hey guys/gals,

I am still trying to find my diamond. I've learned a lot but unfortunately I am stuck with Blue Nile seeing the original diamond my fiance got was from them and he proposed after their 30 day window. The diamond he got wasn't eye clean even though it was a VS2. I guess I am just inclusion sensitive. So, I am trying to decide between 4 diamonds. All the same clarity and color. I got the first two pictures and I am waiting on the others. Please let me know your thoughts and thank you. There is a price difference if I decide on the bigger carat but right now which diamond would you go for? I know there is no such thing as a perfect diamond but having to originally return a ring makes me even more diamond-shy (if there is a thing) Thank you from a newb in training.

I will need to decide by Friday when my original ring is process for the return and exchange. It sucks because I wanted to keep my original e-ring seeing he proposed with it but it was just unclean. So, I don't want to have to go through the process of becoming attached and then feeling like my ring is flaw seeing I am one of those silly girls who is very sentimental about all that goes with an e-ring. I just don't want to have to part with my ring again. --Boba

All are G (color --sentimental reasons), Clarity IF (I saw inclusions in both VS2 and VS1), 3 EX and no fluorescence.

I think 1, 2, and 3 are safest number-wise. If you want this to be your forever ring, I'd be inclined to consider the 1.9 if that is a comfortable size for you.

Diamondseeker-- yes I would pay the extra money as long as it is my forever ring. I am really bummed out that this will be my 2nd return/exchange. I know I shouldn't pay for the IF but I would hate to see something in a VVS1 or VVS2. I wasn't suppose to see anything in a VS2 then VS1, I just feel awful. My fiance has been wonderful but at the same time I kind of feel like I am rejecting him/his gesture if that makes sense. The worse is that I didn't even cheat by looking at the certificate. I just was able to see the inclusions both times.

The funny thing is that you would figure I would be a bridzilla seeing I am now on my 3rd attempt at getting a ring. But our plan is to just do a courthouse ceremony and small dinner with family/friends later on. I feel like I am a ringzilla at the moment. 8)

Don't beat yourself up over being clarity-sensitive. :) I'd much rather see someone pay for IF when their eagle eyes spot inclusions like you (and find them bothersome) than a guy looking to get his fiancee-to-be the D/IF "perfect" diamond, when it turns out she can't tell the difference between a D and a J and can't see inclusions anyway.

Hopefully your guy is impressed at your genetic fitness (spot the hungry tiger / out-of-control bus driver at a mile away!) and you find your perfect stone. :D

$100 bucks say you can't spot any inclusions with your naked eyes on VVS stones graded by GIA or AGS... anyway, going by the specs i like stone #1 the most.

Dancing Fire --- you owe me $100 bucks!!! Both the VS2 and VS1 that I returned were GIA 3EXs.

Evergreen -- Thank you but I have to admit that my eyes were not from great genetics. I had lasik. Does that make me one of those girls with great tits but they're really fake?

DiamondSeeker --- Why do you like the specs on the first 1.9 and not the last one? I am still waiting on pictures but base on the HCA they seemed the same to me. Can you share?

I swear to all that is sparkly and shiny that this 3rd time will be the charm and this must be the last stone. Or least last me till one or two babies!!!

not VVS stones :!: ...

Dancing -- heehee yes once this ring exchange thing is finally resolve, I might stop by a brick and motor store and see some VVS1 and VVS2. Though, I feel like I am at a disadvantage with the lights they use in the jewelry stores.

Are you sure the stones were 100% clean and free of dirt and dust when you saw them? I just have a very hard time believing you saw inclusions in a VS1. Did you compare it to the plot to see if these abnormalities were even in the same place? I just hate to see you overpay for something you literally can't see! But if it's a mind clean thing, then go for it -

Are you saying you were looking at them with a loupe and wanted them to be clean? I have had some VS1's and couldn't even find the inclusions with a 10x loupe, so there is no way a VS1 isn't going to be eyeclean. But you'd be safe with VVS unless you are using a microscope or something! Seriously, I think you are limiting yourself too much by not looking at VVS. You cannot see inclusions in a VVS!

The reason that I did not include the last stone is that it is out of the measurements that usually will yield an ideal cut stone (and almost all branded H&A stones such as WF ACA will fall within these specs). It could have a little leakage and you cannot determine that for sure with BN stones. I stay within these specs especially when buying from paper alone:

table: 54-58

depth: 60-62.3

crown angle: 34-35.0

pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0

ECF8503 -- I did check the plot after I saw it and both stones' inclusions were clouds what I noticed. I am not sure if I was seeing the clouds themselves or just the darker area that the cluster made. So, I am not sure if it is because I can see very small details or that I am light sensitive. I do have an undergrad in a hard science and work with 10-100x or more magnification so maybe it is just something I unconsciously look at or focus on oddities when I am looking at one area/object in particular even without any magnifier.

I honestly think and I agree with you that VVS1 or VVS2 should be fine and I don't need mind clean. I just would like to not see anything though like I say I am so use to and train to look for abnormality in my work that it is my fault. The FB has been patient but now is like just get the IF (he is amuse and finds it funny at what he views as my ringzilla antics).

DiamondSeeker -- Thank you for your explanation. I was confused because the 1.9 you recommended only scored a vg on 3 of the four HCA criteria but the second 1.9 had EX on 3 even though both were under 2 for the total HCA. Base on your recommendation and I know that you have more knowledge and experience I went with your recommendation.

To all --- thank you, thank you, thank you for all you help. I am super excited at finally deciding on my forever e-ring.

Here is a link of the band and I will put up pictures the ring if you want. (Tapered Cathedral Engagement Ring
