Here''s a follow-up question to my previous post.

Does anyone know of a reliable and skilled person or place that does hand filigree work for an engagement ring in platinum? Also: If anyone knows someone in the southeast wisconsin/chicago area, that would be even better. If not, just wish me luck finding someone. Thanks!

(hears crickets chirping)

Anyone?

You'll be hard pushed to get that many recommendations on this type of board. I ended up looking at the websites of local newspapers and reviewing their "best of" editions. I found the names of jewelers in various local cities that won awards, or were voted as best in state/county/city etc. I did various searches on Google for "custom ring design ann arbor award" etc etc. I asked my hairdresser! I walked into lots of stores, looked for someone that could execute the design idea I had. I ended up finding someone I am very happy with in Ann Arbor, MI.

It's not straghtforward to get down to an Earthly address from a Forum... and if you do, it's likely that you also recognize the endorsement given by some online source to a jeweler.

As you can see, Pricescope does list appraisers, given that diamonds get sold via such a reality-check

services. Often, either the seller himself or the appraiser recommend a loca jeweler.

However, Pricescope is not the only online source of such recommendations. Pala International (LINK) lists and endorses both jewelers and appraisers, for better or worse.

I knew this is a daying art - but not completely a-gonner

There was platinum filigree aplenty in the latest international design competitions - only not too much of the respective (rather expensive, if anythins was !) technique rarely becomes the bread and butter of any shop.

Here's one EXCEPTION

I talked with someone at CC Conrad Jewelers here in Milwaukee. They do custom filigree work, by hand. Only hold-up is when I said I wanted it in platinum - the woman said that platinum is hard to do filigree on, and that they mostly do gold. I suppose I could go the white gold route, but I had my heart set on plat. I'm waiting on a call back from them, but so far it seems fairly promising.

Thanks for the feedback.
