I hope the poll worked...

Hey, spent some time drawing up a design the other day. Please be honest and tell me what you think? If you don't like it please say so :)

Suggestions are also welcome.

Trying to decide between 4 and 6 prongs. Also whether to go pointed-oval or teardrop cutout on the side.

Thanks!

my reactions:
basket too high; heart is kind of cutesy; diamonds set into band will look odd. I could see small bezelled marquise diamonds set into the shank and touching the sides of the basket.....

I like the profile which shows the heart on side of the basket. But the diamomd on the shank reminds of me of eyes...

Also, I think a 4 prong double claw would look better than the heart prongs. Does your GF want a wedding set that sit flush with one another? That's also another thing to think about....

BTW, you're a pretty good sketch artist

I think it''s quite nice and feminine. Cool design!

Thanks so much for the comments so far!

I'm starting to not like the heart, it was kind of a spur of the moment thing when I was drawing, and now I do think it's too cutesy. As for the basket height, in actuality it will probably be lower than drawn (as hard as a tried, it's not perfectly to scale). I'm modeling it somewhat off the Tiffany style, so about that height. The prongs I want to look like Mark Morrell's petite sunburst solitaire setting. Link

I really am 50-50 on the 4 or 6 prong. My diamond will probably be about the 90 point range (spread of a little over 6mm) and I don't want to overpower it with metal, but I love the roundness that the 6 prongs gives...

I like the bezelled marquise idea, but there's also a part of me that wants separate diamonds. Maybe all the same size, or only getting bigger/smaller to get rid of the eye impression.

Once again thanks so much for the feedback, I'm pretty new to all of this (had to look up what part of the ring was the shank :D )

I love it the concept and the design, I tried on a beautiful piece with the graduated sidestones on the shank(attached)... and it was stunning, although I would suggest maybe add two more stones graduated on the shank to extend it a bit down the side, so it doesn't look so drastic maybe on the shank tapering off. HOpe that makes sense...

ETA: I do like the heart tip prongs, but not as pronounced (some Ritanis are very pronounced) but if it was done like Mark Morrell.... ooooh that would be gorgeous too!

D&T,

THANKS so much for that picture. I''ve been looking everywhere for an example of diamonds in the shank the way I''m thinking of doing them. I agree with the maybe add a couple on each side. That''s really the part, I''m struggling with, as the rest of the ring is pretty classic Tiffany/Mark Morrell, and it''s really hard to visualize the shank when it''s not in 3D!! (even in my head).

Everyone on this board is the best!

sure anytime,

here is an example of bayoubengal''s (hope you don''t mind) graduated sidestones on tapering on one side, although its beautiful as well, but I absolutely love the graduated tapering effect on the ends like the Sakamoto''s design/yours I wish there was a much clearer picture to show you of that design. Either will be beautiful, just personal perference if you like the tapering effect towards the head as well or just down the shank... lovely design either way!

You''re a good draftsman! I quite like this. I agree with whomever it was above who said that it looked too high, but other than that, I think it looks lovely. I''m also thinking it might look pretty with engraving, a la Greenlake, around the channel-set stones, so sort of tie the sweetness of the heart prongs together with the modernity of the channel-set?

bezelled marquise = yes! No heart prongs for me, but I like the cut outs.

Hahaha... yeah that''s another worry. Always that band to think about. And the heart prongs Mark Morrell style I''m definitely going with. It''s the cutout at the bottom of the prongs I''ll probably get rid of.

Awww, that''s so cute. And you read my mind on the eternity band ;)
