So I found this diamond, but I have some concerns about these feathers running so close to, potentially through, the girdle. The diamond is overseas, so I cannot look at it in person or have it evaluated prior to purchasing. GIA Charge.PNG 1.PNG 2.PNG 3.PNG 4.PNG

This is a 1.5c, I plan on setting it in a cushioned Halo. Can you guys give me your opinion on if I should be concerned about durability?

I am also considering another diamond, roughly the same size, details below, roughly the same cost. Which one do you recommend and why?

Hard to tell from the photo but the first one doesn't look particularly well cut, the second one is most likely eyeclean.

To answer your question, you have to assess it with other things, such as girdle thickness, crown angle. In most cases I would be happy to purchase an SI1 stone with a feather at the girdle, but not without some further information.

Essentially I would keep looking..

5th choice...None of the above

Sadly I'm not finding much at my price point. Are you saying that option 1 is risky and option 2 would probably be visible to the naked eye?

Girdle thickness on the second one is Medium. With a Crown angle of 35.5 and Pavilion = 41.0.
It's a 1.6c with the following measurements: 7.44 - 7.47 x 4.66 mm (so closer to a 1.5 from what I understand). The price is also much closer to a 1.5 than 1.6.9.PNG

But the 1st one is the one with all the feathers on the girdle. Thats just too many/much for me. What is the girdle thickness on that one?

I cant really say about the second stone but my guess is that it might not be eye-clean on close inspection.

So what is your budget and what are the specs you are hoping to get?

Correction I meant to say most likely not eye clean

My vote is for the 2nd one too. First looks risky. Would be best to ask a sales rep if the s2nd is eye clean. :)

So they said that the 1.6 is eye clean. I found this one as well and am considering it.

It's an E instead of a G, but has a Strong Blue fluorescence. I'll have to inquire if it's hazy/milky. It's also slightly smaller at 1.56c with a size of 7.34 - 7.40 x 4.62 mm instead of the 1.6 7.44 - 7.47 x 4.66 mm in the 1.6 (fluorescence free above). It's also $400 cheaper. There's a crystal in it, but it's off the table.

How much are they? What are your desired specs? Carat over colour? Etc

They are right around 11k. I'd like to stay below 12k. 1.5-1.6c+, G color or fainter. Excellent Cut/Sym/Pol. SI1+
They will be in a halo, so I care more about table than depth.

You need to care about depth, if you care if it sparkles, and shines brightly. A too deep stone will be dark, dull & won’t be lively.

I found NOTHING that meets your expectations in G+ color. If you drop to H or I in color, you have a lot more options, and you can raise the bar for clarity for a more eye clean stone.

I have not examined each of these, nor have I tried to run them all through the HCA scale, but your options increase, if you lower your color (within nearly Colorless range), and allow you to increase your clarity grade, and still stay within your budget.
Check these out...

Have you tried calling Martin Sheffield from USA Certed Diamonds and asking him to look for a list of stones for you that are eye clean, with HCA scores 2 or less and in the range of ideal cut? You gotta call him (do not e-mail), but I’m pretty sure he can find a list of options for you in your budget. And it will definitely be cheaper than James Allen. It’s not that easy to call and get through to him, I tried on a couple of different days, but so, so so so worth it for his prices and service (he’ll tell you if he thinks it’s a diamond worth buying).
