Feather in SI1, should I care?

I am looking at a diamond that is SI1 with a feather as plotted below. I have read many threads now that say in general the feather should not pose a durability issue, especially in SI1 or above. However, I also read that larger feathers, and straight feathers may be cause for concern. What is considered large? Would this feather be considered large? It is also straight. Should I be concerned? What should I be asking the consultant to get comfortable with this inclusion? Is it recommended that i have an appraiser take a look at the diamond before being set to ensure the feather doesn't cause any durability issues. There are no other inclusions plotted on this diamond.

Thanks Gypsy, I do have that question pending with the consultant (waiting for them to return tomorrow). Is there anything else that I need to be concerned about? If it doesn't break the surface, should i still have the diamond appraised before being mounted?

Not unless the diamond vendor and the setting vendor are different, AND your insurance requires it before they will insure it during setting. It's not at the edge of the stone or near the girdle. If it doesn't break the surface you should be just fine getting it appraised after it's set.

The only time I would be concerned about a feather would be when it is of considerable size and reaches the edge of the girdle

On plots a green line around the red one would indicate its open to the surface.
