Long time, no post. But I''m back to ask a feasibility question to the pricescopers and jewelers here.

So, a while ago I posted about the allergy problem my fiance was having with the ring I had made, pictures/details of which are here:

Pics of my (former) TR-105

Basically, after a few months and trying a few things, including a platinum plating, I''ve had no luck with getting the TR-105 to work with my fiance, so I''m pretty much back to square one. I don''t have the 3500 dollars it would take to replace the ring in platinum and I don''t think it''s wise to do so anyway. I''ve already pissed away a lot of money on the original 14K tension, but that''s ok, I''ve accepted that. But, we love the design though, so...

What I''m wondering is the feasibility of creating a ring virtually identical to my TR-105 but non-tension. That is, connect the two sides of the bypass with metal, hopefully only around the middle girdle and leaving the bottom open in the same way that the tension does. Has anybody seen anything done like this? I''ve personally seen some pics of non-tension rings trying to appear tension, but I''m wondering if this particular ring can be duplicated traditionally.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Obviously this is mainly while I wait on the weekend, since I''m going to be actually e-mailing custom jewelers to find out for sure...

Garry, i have found this ring on Amazon. Is this something similar to what your are looking for?

Hmmmmmm, very interesting. Thanks for the link. That looks a fair amount like what a regular version of my tension could look like...

Perhaps having a custom made would yield an even more similar look with the sidestones and everything...

Gary, have you thought about titanium? It''s especially good for tension, and she won''t be allergic to it.

It''ll probably have to be titanium or platinum, or non-nickel 14k gold (as she wears quite a bit of gold and white gold jewelry regularly, presumably they are all palladium mix or something). I''m going to price out a platinum ($$$) before I go to titanium.

also, more jewelers are working with palladium. it is similar in look to platinum and a lot less $$$.

Have you considered a nickel-free WG and palladium alloy? My ring is made out of this kind of alloy, and my jeweller told me people with allergies rarely react to this.

Yea honestly the Palladium route would be my first choise, it is more precious than silver and whiter than platinum. Because it is also lighter than platinum at nearly half the weight. With the price of platinum and gold reaching recent highs, use of palladium for jewelry has seen renewed interest domestically and abroad.

Hope this helps.
