Favorite solitaire setting for a 2 ct round brilliant

Hi guys, I really need to reset my diamond. My Verragio setting was created for a 1.5 ct diamond, and my 2 ct is jammed in there incorrectly - so it sits crooked in the prongs, and the prongs are different lengths, and are different sizes on the top of the diamond. Because of the bad fit, the stone is always spinning and shaking in the setting. It would cost almost $500 to remake the ring (and it probably still wouldn''t look perfect), but honestly, I don''t love that setting enough to have it remade - I would rather just get a new setting of a different style.

Ultimately I would like a Leon Mege with sidestones (probably a 5 stone), but DH and I talked about it and have decided that we would rather save that setting upgrade for our 10 year anniversary - 7 years from now. Since I can''t keep this setting for another 7 years (and I still can''t decide what type of sidestones I even want), I am thinking that I''ll just do a new solitaire for now (probably have it made next spring as a push present for our new baby).

So, what is your favorite look for my 2 carat diamond? I am thinking of either a fancy 6 prong (like Mark Morrell or Vatche), or a Harry Winston style solitaire with double prongs (like WF Sierra or Leon''s). The other option to maximize bling is to go with a halo (like the Tacori). Please vote and let me know what you think!

hum, i would always say the wf tiffany, but i''ve never seen their sierra before and i really like it! so it''s a toss up between those two!

I really like the Tacori, so out of the options listed, that's where my vote will go ... but I'm curious as to why you're putting the Leon on the back-burner? From what I understand (and this could be erroneous), he's pretty reasonable price-wise. If this is just going to be a temp-setting, could it be more effective to, say, get the Leon for your next anniversary/5 year and then do something *even bigger* (lord alone knows what that could be, given these options

)for the 10 year?

ETA: d'oh! Just saw the option for a simple Leon folded in with the Sierra - so, let me say, Leon all the way! After that Tacori, after that, MM.

I LOVE the swan! Does anyone have handshots of that? It looks so graceful and elegant!

Since you're planning to re-set the stone again in the future, it's a good idea to go with the simplest possible setting now - you'll save some money on the setting that way. So - I vote for the Tiffany classic, maybe with tapered baguettes.

I voted halo. Second choice would be the classice Tiffany. Reason being I don't like 6 prongs and also, I'm not a fan of double clawed rings (hopefully not offending anyone with my comments. . .we each have our own tastes!

I voted for the leon double claw.....although looking @ the tacori halo, something about that is really intriguing. That would be my 2nd choice.

I voted for the Leon/WF Sierrra b/c I really love it.
Off the top of my head I can''t remember his/her name but a PSers has the Sierra from WF and it is divine when I upgraded I even considered re-setting my new stone into the Sierra setting but then waffled at the last minute. The double claws make me swoon. I think your beauty would look amazing in the Sierra setting or Leon of course if you go with that, can''t really go wrong.

How exciting a new baby and a new setting! Congrats!

I really liked the Tacori, but I voted for MM or V.Swan. Personally as a soilitaire, I prefer the MM over the Swan but they''re both very beautiful. As for the Tacori, I don''t think it''s solitaire enough. Now as a halo, it''s absolutely gorgeous!!

I voted for the double claw prongs, but I third the idea of enquiring with Leon on a solitaire setting. I think you''ll be pleasantly surprised with his pricing.

Everyone, thanks so much for your feedback. I have to admit that I am really leaning toward a six prong, either the Swan or Tiffany style. I really like MM, but I''m not crazy about his prongs. For a round I just think that the metal from the 6 prongs makes the stone look bigger - I know it''s an optical illusion, but I tried on a 2 ct in a 6 prong setting at a jewelry store, and it looked bigger than my stone.

I really like the Tacori too, but going with a more elaborate setting will be more expensive, and if I''m going to start getting much over $2000, then DH may be less excited about getting me sidestones for a milestone anniversary a few years down the line. The Leon settings that I would eventually like to upgrade to are going to cost more in the $5-7K price range, so I would rather not spend too much now on a blingy brand-name setting.

I do really love the double prong Leon solitaire or the WF Sierra, both of which are in my price range, but I am afraid that they won''t make the stone look as big as a six-prong setting will, and look very similar to my current setting. Besides, when I eventually get my 3 or 5 stone Leon, I will get the double claw prongs on that ring. There''s something that I just love about six prongs on a round solitaire ...

Do you know what? I just remembered - doesn''t Leon do a 6 prong called a "tulip" head? I think I remember a PSer got the tulip solitaire from Leon, but I can''t remember who it was (I couldn''t find it in a search). Does anyone remember who it was?

Vesper, I agree that 6 make the stone look bigger and that is why I don''t like 4 prongs.
