Santa Baby is playing right now and I''ve always liked this song - but I think my favorite is Silver Bells.

And what holiday is complete anymore with "would you like an apple pie with that" but oh - that''s SO un pc - so so un pc and yet I absolutely cannot help myself... that song will never be the same carol again lol There was another version of that song on SNL "dysfunctional family christmas" that cracked me up too - "please don''t touch me" haha anyone else remember that one?

Carol of the Bells, absolutely. But only if done well - most people sing it either too fast or too slow.

I absolutely love threads about Christmas carols and think I was one of the major contributors to last year''s Pricescope thread (that would be the 2008 thread on Christmas songs). I want to encourage everyone to contribute to the new (2009) thread, especially since some new music has been produced in 2009. I also wanted to make last year''s finds available to everyone, however. If you want to see what people posted last year, use the link above.

I look forward to finding some great, new music from you music aficionados posting here!

No Christmas of mine is complete without "All I Want for Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey.

Also, I love me some TSO this time of year. Their "Carol of the Bells" is A-MA-ZING.

And any of the traditional carols sung by Josh Groban. **Melt**

I just read through the 2008 thread and, at the end, Skippy was looking for a country music style rendition of, "O, Little Town of Bethlehem" sung by two men. I do not think I have found it, but it reminded me of a new (to me) CD I found this Christmas season. It is actually made by a Christian music group (and I do not follow Christian music), but it has a country music feeling. I can put it on and listen to the entire CD comfortably.

The CD is "Christmas Offerings" by Third Day.

You can see them do a live performance of, "Angels We Have Heard On High" by clicking here and, "Born in Bethlehem" by clicking here.

I heard a song this morning called "Merry Swiftmas (Even Though I Celebrate Chanukah)". A snippet of the lyrics, which gave me a good giggle:

"I don''t need more toys and shiny things / I just want a blonde who likes to sing / So don''t put a bow on a box / There''s no need to send Megan Fox / I don''t need a big mansion / So let''s nix Scarlett Johansson / They''ll be teardrops on my guitar / If I end up with Amy Smart / So, Santa, for my gift / Please bring me Taylor Swift"

I love Christmas songs! I''m fond of the Little Drummer Boy, but really, I think I like just about any of them. They had Christmas songs playing at Kohl''s today and JD kept raising his eyebrow at me b/c I was singing whilst browsing. Nobody else seemed to enjoy my lively Christmas singing either. Hmph. It''s not like I was belting out the songs.

I like the Peanuts Christmas music. And at the office I can not help but grin when Feliz Navidad is on the radio. It''s a catchy one.

those are all such nice choices

... one I DON''T like is 12 days of christmas... I never cared one way or the other until I had to listen to it today and I made it to the beginning of 11 and I was like woah, done, please never again!!! Up to 5 gold rings I could handle, then it was just redundant lol

coventry carol, pat-a-pan, in dulci jubilo, jesu bambino, and jesu joy of man''s desiring are my favorite classics

percy the puny poinsettia, six white boomers, jingle jingle jumping beans, and snoopy vs. the red baron are some of my off-the-wall favorites

I adore the song that Paul McCartney does. I don''t know the title of it, but when I was working at a bank it never bothered me to hear that song a ton during the day.
I also really like the Mariah Carey christmas song.

Christmas doesn''t start for me until I hear Fairytale in New York by the Pogues and Kirsty McColl.

Wham, Last Christmas and Band Aid, Feed the World.

I love the old fave''s like Bing Crosby etc and carols.

I adore the song that Paul McCartney does.

I think you mean "Wonderful Christmas Time". This video on YouTube is not great quality, but it shows a young Paul and Linda McCartney together onstage having a good time performing the song. Enjoy!

Call me a kid, but I LOVE "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas" It is such a feel good song that you can''t help but sing along with!

fairy tale in ny - is that the one where they''re like "i hate you" and complaing about each other? I love that! I had only heard it a couple times but when I was in Ireland it played constantly.... also, and I thought this was odd... that frankie goes to hollywood song, "the power of love" played a lot during the holidays over there... apparently it was a big hit some christmas and now it''s attached to that - it hardly ever gets airtime here but I''ve long loved that song (since like 85 lol)

There''s a song "christmas in the north west... a gift god wrapped in green" I HATE that song - it''s sooooo annoying lol

I enjoy being able to hear the songs to which people allude in this thread. Sometimes I know them, and sometimes I do not. I was not familiar with this Norwegian Christmas song, so I went to YouTube to listen to it. I found that I really didn't care for the version of it sung by The Oslo Gospel Choir, but I got to hear other renditions of it on YouTube. I do not, usually, like popular Christmas music. I like traditional carols. This version of the song ("En stjerne skinner i natt") appealed to me the most.

i''ll have to look for the jingle bells in pig latin too

"Here With Us" by Joy Williams was a revelation to me last year. The music itself is lovely, but someone on YouTube put together a presentation with a video that makes it even more powerful. I think it was diamondseeker who drew our attention to it in 2008. No one should miss it!

me too-that is my ultimate favourite Christmas song.....off to youtube it now

For me it has to be Judy Garland singing ''Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas'' and I currently have Doris Day on CD in my car singing lots of Christmas songs - bliss

I all time favorite would probably have to be The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole.

I saw that this song was on bohemia's list as well as mentioned by both of you, so I went off to see if I recognized it; I did not. I couldn't understand the lyrics, although I enjoyed the spirited, Irish-style music. One of the YouTube videos gave me some idea of what might be going on in the song. Then I found a version of the song that showed the lyrics...and I felt a bit let down by them. I didn't get any kind of message whatsoever from them. I guess if one grows up hearing this song at Christmas time, it will remind one of Christmas :-). For someone who wanders in and hears it for the first time, it may not become his favorite Christmas song. (Or it may.) It has a catchy tune, but seems to be about drinking and fighting!

I still have favorite Christmas songs, though every year I''m less in teh Christmas spirit. I love-

The Christmas Song- Nat King Cole
Santa Baby- Eartha Kitt

I like alot of the classic holiday music too, but the funny/silly/kitchy ones are my favs.

Transiberian Orchestra - Carol of the Bells

or Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies

or Do you hear what I hear

I said earlier in this thread that some new music had been produced in 2009. One new piece of music is a Christmas (or winter) CD by Sting that came out in November, called "If On A Winter's Night". It has a somewhat eclectic mix of songs on it. To hear "Gabriel's Message", click on the link. I like the harmony in it very much. You might want to try this version, too, for a little variety: "Gabriel's Message-2"
