Hello everyone,

I need an opinion...

GIA color only certificate
Shape: Oval Brilliant
Measurements: 4.78x3.75x2.28mm
Weight: 0.27 ct
Color Grade: Natural Fancy Pink Even

Vendor says it's I1 clarity, but eye clean.
Price: $2600.00

My concern: It looks like it might be towards the fancy light end of fancy pink. The price seems okay based on the clarity. Thoughts?

I am not a fancy colored diamond expert at all but the color looks very pale, not evenly saturated and looks a tad gray.

Is that the only photo you were sent? hard to judge from that, but it does look on the light side for a fancy pink. Do you have a copy of the GIA report and it matches up and is this a vendor you've purchased from and trust? Did they tell you what made it an I1? I didn't think most I1s are eye clean. Based on what I see, I'd probably pass. But maybe it's a lot better than that pic. Do they have a good return policy? If so, you can always check it out in person.

I have a video too. I'd post it, but it requires a log in to view it. There is one black inclusion on the edge of the table. That's what makes it an I1. I've bought from this vendor twice before. I have verified the GIA cert. Return policy is good, but it's a hassle to send things back internationally. I think I'm going to pass as you all have confirmed my thoughts. I guess I doubt myself a bit now as I passed up two really great pinks two years ago.

I feel your pain. I also missed some great pinks the past couple of years. I agree that international returns are an issue, and I'm wondering now with the the unrest in Isreal if this is going to become more problematic. Of course I don't know if that's where this diamond is located, but so many FCDs seem to be there. I read where Hamas targeted 2 rockets right at the metropolitan area of Tel Aviv. Although both were destroyed this time before hitting- could it escalate to full out war? I doubt much diamond traffic would go out regularly if that happens- or would it? Sigh... I just hope this is settled peacefully before more loss of life.

Ok- back to topic. I think you'll find something you like better, so probably a good idea to pass on this one and save the money for something more special.

Now that you've posted you won't buy it I'll post that I wouldn't buy it either.
The hue is attractive but the color is too uneven for my preference.

Of course this is meaningless since YOU are considering it, not I.

Color vs. size. vs price tradeoffs are SO personal.

Agree.

The colour looks uneven but does the GIA report state it as even? It's difficult to assess FCDs based on a single static picture. I would guess the black carbon spot might be eye clean in person but because the saturation is listed as fancy, that could be debatable. Inclusions show up better in a light coloured stone. Add to the fact that it is an international purchase, the hassle of returns makes this purchase riskier.

I thought I had a great prospect in this fancy light pink diamond from Blue Nile.

Shape: Cushion Modified Brilliant
Measurements: 4.73x4.35x3.12mm
Carat Weight: 0.54
Color Grade: Fancy Light Pink
Clarity Grade: VS2

But alas I'm not seeing any much pink in the picture. I feel like fancy light pink seems to have the broadest spectrum. I love the shape, clarity, and cut, but the color just isn't there :nono:

looks "light brownish pink" in the picture, doesn't it? Is it GIA "light fancy pink"?

Yep, GIA deemed it pure fancy light pink. It could be just a really terrible picture, but I doubt it.

Thats pretty strange. FCDs really are a case by case thing.

I see pink, but with FCD's, especially light and faint colors, the color doesn't jump out at you. You have to usually set them in a colored metal, surround them with white stones, or if you're lucky enough, bluish green stones, to see the color.

This is obviously why more intense saturations are expensive. Have you considered a fancy brownish pink? It might be a more affordable choice and sometimes the brown isn't as distracting if its the secondary color, but the pink is more intense. I don't know your budget, but if you can afford a more saturated pink, I would go that way, otherwise, you might be continually disappointed at these fancy light colors.

Is there any way they could send you any additional photos? Although the 1 photo they got you was not that great, perhaps the vendor that would be providing the stone to them could get a few clearer ones and also specify the lighting used? I think Blue Nile does not actually stock any of the FCD's they list. Otherwise, because of their return policy, you could get it to see in person before making a decision.

Edited to add that all FCD's are hard to photograph period, but the lighter ones maybe more so depending on lighting, etc to try to show their true color/shade.

I agree with Kroshka, especially about FCDs being hard to photograph. But with all the lighter pink diamonds I have, I generally have found them to photograph more pink rather than less pink than what I see IRL. But I see brown in that photo and since GIA graded it straight pink I think it must be a really bad photo because I think GIA is quick to use that brown modifier if it's really there. I've never bought from Blue Nile, but if they have a good return policy- why don't you take a look at it in person.

I have a GIA light pink and a GIA light brown pink and both of them are clearly pink to me. I thought for sure a fancy light pink would meet my expectation for "pinkness." I love the cushion shape, size, and clarity, so It's a shame I don't see it. It's only $5400, so I knew there would be some sort of catch.
