Hello everyone, this is my first posting. I have just bought myself a .54ct Fancy Light Pink diamond for my pending anniversary (yes, hubby encourages me to buy my own present!). I also saw a beautiful platinum ring for sale on LT for a 5.2mm round and a great price so I pulled the trigger.

My question is, do ya'll think I will be disappointed in the color against platinum, and maybe I should look for a rose gold setting and use the platinum for a spinel I also already have?

P.S. It is the round stone in the center of the gem case.

Thanks in advance.20180626_150602.jpg 20180626_145936.jpg

Could we see the setting? You definitely need a rose gold bezel or something around the stone to add to the color, but that might be able to be done with the setting you bought. I definitely think a platinum halo would add contrast and make the pink stone look more pink. But you need pink gold surrounding that stone. Here's a good example of what I am talking about. This ring had a smaller diamond than yours, but it has a rose gold cup for the diamond, and the platinum gives the contrast.

Fun project!
I would take the loose stone and the empty platinum mounting to a local jeweler that had empty rose gold mountings and ask if they'd let me compare. 14k and 18k if possible?. Ask them to just sit the stone in the setting and that'd give you a rough idea.
That would be awesome if you could take pictures at the jeweler and come back here to post!

Thanks for your advice! I will definitely be looking at the stone in rose gold before pulling the trigger and setting it. Here is the setting- I got it for a TINY fraction of that, so it's a keeper either way! P.S. she sent me a video of the actual ring, so I do know what it looks like.Screenshot_20180626-080853_Chrome.jpg

Sounds like you already bought the setting. Why not place the pink stone in it loosely and snap a few pics for us to look at. I'm thinking the pink may look good next to the platinum and not need the rose gold. But I haven't ever seen the look to confirm.

LOL, as I was typing this I looked down and the following ad was on the screen. I'm envisioning the inverse of this -- pink stone and plat setting and it will contrast & pop.

I would ask if they can do rose gold for the prongs and the gallery. Having the pink next to the stone can enrich it.

I'm another that thinks you need rose gold surrounding the pink, especially with a FLP. I have FLP's set in earrings and even though the rest of the earrings are white gold the contrast just isn't enough. They needed the rose gold to enhance the color.
