Fake lab diamond?

Hello,

I bought an engagement ring (center diamond: 2.5ct radiant lab diamond) on etsy. The seller sent me some pictures of the IGL report before sending me the ring.
He said he would send me the ring first then the IGL report separately. I received the ring but the next day after receiving the ring, the seller store on Etsy closed and I never received the IGL report. Since his store close I never was able to contact him.

So I took my ring to a jewelery store. They use a diamond tester and said it was a real diamond. A couple month later, I bought a loop/microscope to check the ring. I was able to read the serial number which matches when I plug it on the IGL website.

However, with the microscope, I see that the diamond is full of bubble and is really rough which makes me doubt that it it a lab diamond.

Any opinions on this? Thank you for your help.

After reading all your comments, I cleaned the ring with warm water and dish soap. It looks way better now. Thank you for your help.

I bought this cheap "Microscope/loop" on Amazon. You can either use the app to directly connect the microscope to the phone or you can use a usbc cord.

Then you see the image on your phone through the app. You take picture or record video on the app.

I did a screenshot of my phone screen to show you how the app look like on the phone.20240814_193925.jpgScreenshot_20240814_201733_Max-see.jpg

That’s a tough spot to be in. I had something similar happen with a ring I bought online. I’d suggest taking it to a trusted gemologist for a thorough check—someone who can really verify whether it’s a lab diamond or not. I know how frustrating it can be to deal with shady sellers. Hopefully, a professional can clear things up for you.

We used to do photos like that with a loupe and phone camera

If an Etsy store closes, you can request Etsy to give you a full refund of your purchase price and not have to send your item back. This has happened to me at least twice.

May be I should have done that since I didn't get my IGI report. But let's not be too greedy. The ring looks nice and it seems that it is really a lab diamond.
