Fake Diamond?

I was just looking at my mom's diamond ring today since they are visiting. It's in the car and kind dark, but when I see from the front it's all clear and stuff but when I peek from the back of the setting, it almost looks like the back of the diamond has a layer of something that made the diamond not clear (almost frosted glass look) and I'm not sure what it is... it sure makes me a little nervous about it. Any ideas?

she had the stone for about 5-6 years (never cleaned) but she rarely wears that ring, maybe about 4-5 times? It looks like such evenly coat from the back, but why nothing was effected from the front?

Yeah, probably dirt.
Diamond are gunk magnets.

I clean mine (especially the bottom) a couple times a day.

ok thank you. I'll have her bring the ring to get cleaned at my place tomorrow and see if that makes any difference
