Hi All,
We've been wearing bandanas over our faces....but I've resigned myself to buying the (non N95) paper masks.

At this point, Amazon is flooded with options.....I'd very much appreciate any suggestions for masks to be used by non-medical personel.....

Honestly, right now the delivery time is what I would be looking at. I ordered some on 4/2 and they MAY be here tomorrow or Tuesday. Original delivery date (once I placed the order) was 5/21-6/12!

@Rockdiamond in the local drugstores they are now selling KN 95 masks. The KN 95 are not used by medical professionals and the USA recently allowed them to be sold here. They come from China but people seem to like them. Supposedly they block 95% of particles ie virus, bacteria.

I don't know if you can get them online but they are being sold in many drugstores all over NY.

I really don't have a clue. I was looking for ratings and all of these are so new that they only have a few ratings, and most seem to be from China. I just went with one that was sponsored, and am crossing my fingers that they're decent. I hope someone else here can help.

And I just found accumed online. They deliver. Didn't copy the link though. :(

If we eliminated all the things in our homes that were made in China, we'll be living in the woods at this point:(

Thanks @missy !!
I'll check the local pharmacies....I ordered the $27 Amazon box in any event....I'll report back when/if they arrive.....

They vary quite a bit depending on the manufacturer.
I bought the KN95 mask at the pharmacy in NYC but they are hard to breathe in so I ordered these: https://rsfacemask.com/products/rsfacemask
They were shipped a day later so I should have them Tues/Wed.

What % of virus particles do these claim to block @Nikki1415, do you know?

ETA: Found it. "PM2.5 refers to atmospheric particulate matter (PM) that have a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometers"

Good luck, hope you are pleased with the masks that arrive! And yes I agree. We have no choice. So much is made in China and much of it is OK.

Lol, I just meant the shipping times, because it's very slow right now.

I'm not definitely sure but from what I read, the carbon filter that they use catches like 90% of them. I ordered the mask because the regular ones are difficult to breathe in and these are made for people who do heavy lifting.

@Rockdiamond my mom is a sewer and making cloth ones with a place for a filter. If the ones you find don't work, she'd would be happy to make some for free. (Probably while wearing earrings I bought for her from you!)

Thanks- that's awesome! Much more substantial, and reusable.......can you please report back on how the mask is once you get it?

Sure, no problem!

I posted above. It states in the FAQs it filters out atmospheric particulate matter (PM) that have a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometers. Sounds pretty good. Please let us know your thoughts when you get it and wear it. I find all masks too hot and I am always sweating. I cannot think how it will be once it gets warmer here.

Can I admit that you just brought a tear to my eye.........can you please give mum a kiss from me:)

That was my thought as well, I can barely breathe in the mask now but once temps go up it will be even worse. Yeah the filters are pretty good, I just hope it will be easier to breathe in. I'll let you know!

When it gets hot, the bandanna might even be the best.......

I bought 3 of these for my kids last night. I liked them because they have the nose wire (important).

They obviously aren’t N-95 but better than nothing and $14.00 each

I have the fabric ones sewn by a friend where you can add a filter if you want, so far so good!

Some of the KN95 masks are counterfeit.

Illinois spent $17 million on masks from China that are now being recalled in other states

It's happening with the more critical N95 masks too.

My husband tells me that if it is a bit difficult to breathe (I commented that I was having a little difficulty breathing) then the mask is doing its job.
