hello all just picked up my loose diamond its a gia cert diamension 6.38-6.43 x3.97

1.00 carat
color: G
Clarity: SI2
Cut: ex
polish: ex
symmetry: ex
depth 62%
table 56%
crown angle 35
pavillion 40.6

as the diamond looks stunning it does look small, however i have nothing to compare it to with me. The 1 carats i saw in the store that were in a setting looked like a good size.. is my eyes playing tricks on me? will this diamond appear bigger when i set it in a solitaire setting?

thanks

I just plugged in your numbers into the Holloway Cut Advisor and all areas of performance came back as excellent expect for the spread (diameter for weight) ... This got a very good rating. All in all, this stone is probably not smaller than the other ones you checked out ... just a case of diamond shrinkage syndrome. Don''t worry, it''s not fatal.

I got a touch of it as well as I started looking at more and more diamonds. I started out wanting carat and now, I don''t want anything less than 1.25 carats, however ... 1.50 would be perfect...

It will look a little bigger set. You can also do a halo setting which will make it look bigger. 1 ct is a lovely size!!!

thanks for the quick replies guys im just that paranoid guy when spending a lot of money.. like buying a brand new car and thinking there is a dent when its nothing :)

I know the feeling. heheee Come back and post pics!

Don''t worry: stones always look smaller unset, because you''re looking to them in relation to a much broader expanse than where they''re meant to sit - the setting, if yu''re feeling literal, which brings the proportions into focus, or YOUR FINGER/EAR/THROAT, etc., if you''re feeling impatient. The stone will look *gorgeous* once it''s set, and if you''re at all concerned about shrinkage, there is, as suggested above, always the halo option ....
