Seems to me it might have some of the qualities as a Rose cut?

Should be better than a rose cut. A rose cut has a flat bottom, not going to have as good a performance unless a mirror is place beneath that.
+1. Rose cuts are flat at the bottom and will window (unless backed by metal) while french cuts have pavillion facets. The french cuts we''ve cut so far are surprisingly vibrant, lively, colorful and bright. We will be cutting a 1ct princess (likely candidate, still evaluating our options) into a french cut and I''ll let you know how that goes. I expect it to be a really uniquely beautiful stone...hopefully, lol.

Missydebby, if it makes you feel any better the side stones for my Leon ring are $2200 per carat. Must be for the custom cutting. Here''s a link: http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=505
Do you have a thread on your ring? It is one of my favourite styles!

Sorry, no thread on my ring. I''ve loved reading about Missydebby''s quest for Leon brilliance instead (she cracks me up)! I had Perry source me a 1.5 carat centre diamond (wish I could have gone larger, but budget didn''t allow). The side stones were described as trapezoid and square shaped set into a channel and will be approx. 1 ctw. I guess these side stones need to be cut exactly to fit, hence the higher cost.

I absolutely LOVE Leon''s micropave, but it just isn''t me. I needed something a little more simple and I hope this style fits the bill! Will receive the ring in the next 2 to 3 weeks, depending on Canadian customs (hope it won''t be held long).

Missydebby,

My tapered french cut side stones are $2800 per carat

I hope I like the french cut in person, since I''ve never seen them!

Hey Ms Wintotty! Missed you

That price seems totally reasonable as they are tapered as they extend to your center stone. They are so immaculately cut. I haven''t seen them in person either, but they look to die for from your photos. Are the example French cut photos in this thread getting you excited for your ring?!?

Yeah, I'm soooooo ready to have the ring on my finger! This Friday is at the 6 week mark, but Leon said because Monday was holiday and also he's leaving for Vegas for the trade show on Wednesday, the ring will be done next week

It's funny, the tapered cut set was not really custom cut for my stone, but he happens to receive the set when I sent my stone in. He said he had some project in mind for the tapered set already, so I don't need to go for that route if I want different setting, but after I saw the pictures of the french cuts I was sold!
