I've been reading threads on PS for about a week now and am looking for the best diamond for my girlfriend I have a $25k budget for the loose diamond. While shopping on James Allen's site I found this:

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.91-carat-g-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-270377

One of the things that seems to be a common topic is Hearts and Arrows diamonds. This did not show up on their site as one, but it seems to be pretty close to my very untrained eye. What are you thoughts? worth the money, or should I keep looking?

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

this one not as well cut as the first option.

OP, pick 3. Here are 5 more suggestions: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/?DefaultOrder&TabSelected=3&DiamondID=250235,276230,277238,272646,251524,267576,262143,270377,200147&ps=15

I like the 1.85. Whiter than your choice, the 1.91, and virtually the same size, with a lower price.

Whoops did not see that, consumer has two options a 2ct GH/SI1, 2.5 H/ SI2 in larger size or a FG/VS1/VS2 1.8-19 ct.

Thanks, Julie!

Can't tell you how much I appreciate the feedback and going out of your way to show more stones. I'm not stuck on James Allen, but they do seem to have the best selection (with pictures) and prices unless you think otherwise.

I really want to max out the diamond value so I guess I'm looking for the best possible diamond at (or even around if it's absolutely amazing) $25k. The six you posted are all wonderful. My thoughts/questions:

1. I saw the 2.2 carat ring and loved the size, clarity and AGS ideal cut. The only drawback was the H color. Do you think this makes a big difference? would you take the 1.8 or 1.9 over the 2.2 for one grade better color, or am i missing another aspect of the ring? Are there drawbacks to the 2.2 that I didn't notice.

2. Do you think I'm likely to find a better diamond for $25k if I wait or are these great values?

any other feedback appreciated.

just wanted to weigh in-color is so personal but H's are beautiful and as long as it was eye clean, I would personally love the much bigger stone :-) Good luck, that is a wonderful budget :twirl:

If i were picking 3 of those 6 from JA for a review, I'd probably do 2.20 H VS2, 1.85 G VS2, 2.03 G SI1. It takes a few days to get an IS picture.

There are some other 2 ct H SI1s at other vendors that look very good, and the other 1.89 and 1.91 Gs are more expensive for only .05 mm difference.

They are just normal Internet prices, not spectacularly cheap or something you can't pass up.

my top two as of right now are two:

http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/2.153-h-vs2-round-diamond-ags-bl-104067041001

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/2.20-carat-h-color-vs2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-272646

I ordered an idealscope image like you suggested on the James Allen ring, (along with a couple others you mentioned) and I'll post them when I get them.

Do you think the fluorescence is a turn-off, or is it a way to get a much better diamond (if that is the case)? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm new and I want this to be done right.

2 great choices, the fluorescence is not a turn-off.

I think of fluorescence as a benefit, not a negative. I seek out stones with fluor, personally.

Particularly with an H-colored stone, the fluor can be beneficial (I have an H with Strong fluor and its awesome).

Fluorescence gets a bad rap from the uninformed. Don't let that deter you from a great stone.
