Soooo.... I''ve seen the new ASET pics recently done on some stones. I know that it was recently introduced to the industry, I''m curious about it! How does it work, how are the pics taken, and most of all, what is an "ideal" image? Like, what do the different colors mean and such? I''m familiar with what to look for with the idealscope, but not the ASET and I want to learn!

Thanks!

Time poor
maybe someone else can help with words.
This is from the Rap article http://www.diamonds.net/news/newsitem.asp?num=12383&type=articles&topic=all&searchfor=AGS+&author=yantzer

nderstanding that the blue areas set up contrast, the red areas are highly desirable and the green areas and leakage are less desirable . The cutting quality of a faceted diamond can quickly, but subjectively, be determined. The AGS Angular Spectrum Evaluation Tool (ASET) allows the evaluation of loose and mounted goods in a subjective manner.
Hardware
The AGS ASET is a device that allows the viewing of the color-coded mapping from where a diamond draws light. The AGS will be introducing countertop and hand-held models.

with a choice of no backlight, or with backlight.

With many fancy shapes we accept that there will be leakage and well dispersed leakage adds to good contrast

AGS indicates that ASET can be used on mounted goods.

Nice photos for the handheld. Swift too.

IrishEyes, I did this overview in FAQ anticipating more interest in the next few months. It has diagrams primarily related to the desktop. Garry if you have time, perhaps you could add some of those HH photos.

Gary''s an Aussie, they are almost impossible to offend, even when you are trying hard!

Don''t worry, he was just pulling back on your chain.

I was fortunate to spend several hours with him in Vegas and he has a WELL DEVELOPED sense of humor as well as nearly encyclopedic knowledge of diamond cutting.

Wink

(Just try sitting at a table with him, Paul Antwerp and John Quixote if you want your head to feel like bursting as you try to soak up the information flying about...)

Good!! I''m glad I didn''t seem to offend him, LOL, his reply seemed so strict!

I would love to sit around all you experts one day and learn a few new things, although I think I would feel very overwhelmed and lackluster next to all you!!

Irish Eyes = "When Irish eyes are smiling..da da, da da, dah da"
