Hello! I have good news! I THINK I''ve found the stone. My boyfriend currently has reserved the following stone from GOG:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5550/

I put it through the HCA, and it gets a score over 2 (when you use the numbers off the page) and over 3 (when you use the numbers on the cert). Why am I getting different scores?

Now, the HCA says that this diamond is "worth buying if the price is right," and believe me, the price is quite right! Jonathan shot a video comparison of this stone for me along with 3 others and it looked fabulous to my eyes! Here''s the linky to the video (it''s the 4th stone):

Does it look like a winner? I know it isn''t "perfect" but it''s not going to be a dud, right? I''m actually really worried you''ll all tell me that it''s not so great. Also, I think my BF will kill me if I tell him this isn''t "the one." He''s ready to buy!

Thanks in advace! I don''t know what I''d do without Pricescope!!!

If it looks good in real life, video, ASET and IS, don't rely on the HCA, it is only use as a rejection tool and the cut off is set low to be on the safe side.

Also, GIA round their numbers, Pavilion angles at 0.2 degree steps. So the angle is probably around 41.1 degree in this case.

Hi TG,

No worries on this stone, it comes from an exceptional cutting facility. They just cut to proportions the HCA isn't crazy about. i.e. steeper pavilions with 34+ crowns. This is a very tightly cut stone (that's good), and it looks great. Plus, what a fantastic size. Score!

I see no reason not to get that baby, tell your guy to flash that card!

Ditto Ellen.

Stone-cold11, Ellen and Lorelei,

Thank you SOOOO much. You''ve definitely put my mind at ease! I''m so glad I decided to post my question. I was afraid you''d give it bad marks and I''d have to tell my BF that we''d be continuing our search. Your knowledge is amazing! I''m now curious what a "tight stone" is. Haha.

So we''ve picked the stone *contented sigh* now all there is to do is decide whether or not to have the little diamonds in the crown of the MWM Flame. Any opinions?

And again, thank you.

What Ellen means by a very tightly cut stone, is one which is cut to excellent proportions with little variance between them for the angle ranges etc.

Right. The crown and pavilion angles (in conjunction with other things) are very important to the performance of the diamond. Each of those numbers are an average of 8 actual measurements (you can find on the Helium report). The variation can range from very small up to huge, and the diamond may/will suffer a bit with a large variation. This diamonds range is very close and that means a better performing diamond. It also shows the cutter really took time to cut a nice piece of ice.
