Thank you for existing, Pricescope! You make it possible for us to please our ladies.

Can anyone give me some feedback on this stone? I know it is a little deep, but it seems to perform well, and the difference in diameter between this and one with a depth of 61% or so is only a couple fractions of a millimeter, so that doesn''t bother me.

It has a 1.8 on the HCA (2 if I use angles instead of depth %, does that matter?)

Hi citiman,

Well, you have already seen it (correct?), and have apparently compared it to another, and you like it. That counts for a lot.

Depth is a wee bit deep, but not horrible. It is obviously not cut to H&A's standards, but I would imagiine you know that.

So, I say, if you like it, and don't see anything you like better, get it!

p.s. Angles are more accurate.
 
Thanks for the reply Ellen.... Maybe I should clarify. I tossed out some information that may have made it seem like I have some clue, but I really don''t....just have a wee bit of knowledge garnered from this wonderful site. I have not seen it in person, when I say eye clean, that is what the seller says, and I believe that because I have dealt with them in the past. When I say it performs well, I am using my very limited knowledge to look at the aset and IS images, but this is really where I need help. Am I missing anything? I know that it isn''t H&A, but is it well cut?

I would need more numbers to tell you how well cut it is. Do they have a Sarin report on it you can post?
 
Symmetry definitely seems off. Do you have more info?
 
I''d want to know the weight (carats) and diameter measurement. This stone could possibly face up small due to the depth and slightly thick girdle.
 
I don't like the stone from looking at the photo. There is a weird dark core which makes me think I'd rather pass on this stone. Nailhead?

I was planning to mail a check tomorrow, put a $3k deposit down, so I really appreciate the feedback. I like the vendor, so maybe I should just look at more of their stones. It''s an internet vendor, so I don''t have the luxury of seeing it in person.
 
You could also consider shipping it to an independent appraiser near where you live. You would be able to view the stone and see if you like it in person and get an outside professional opinion that way. There is a list of trustworthy appraisers here on the site.

Not sure if it''s worth it to you or if you''re interested in that, but just thought I''d throw that out there!

I noticed that too. Personally, I would keep looking. However, it does seem to have pretty good spread for the amount of money you would be paying. Depends on your priorities.

You're seeing table reflection. By the numbers the c/p combo looks to be 41/34 which would not cause the nailhead effect.

Table reflection is, literally, the reflection of the table seen in the pavilion of the diamond in some lighting conditions. Diamond cutters have used this phenomenon since before scanners ever existed to judge pavilion depth.

The graphic below shows how table reflection increases as table size or pavilion depth increase. This diamond has a 43.5% pavilion depth (41 degree pavilion angle) so it would land between the bottom examples on the graphic. Of course the graphic has "perfect" wireframe simulations. In real diamonds a level of asymmetry will 'bloat' the reflection's appearance, as you can see in the 40X photo. Bear in mind that such things are exaggerated in magnified still photos; table reflection it is not nearly as notable in normal viewing, especially when the diamond is in motion.

So, is table reflection not as serious an issue as a nailhead? I just want something that sparkles nicely, and is cut well enough that the J doesn''t show visible color...

No problem Lisa. And Citiman,table reflection is natural. All rounds have it to some extent. With larger tables and deeper pavilion angles the it''s more apparent but in stones with good light performance you would need to isolate it in certain lighting to see the effect. You can see it in large stones more readily than in smaller sizes but it will not be noticeable in all lighting conditions. It''s seen primarily in diffused lighting (like that 40X photo) and when the stone is lit from the sides more strongly than from above. No worries.

On the other hand, the nailhead effect is caused by light leakage which is something to be concerned about, as such diamonds will have dark centers in practically all lighting.

I like the diamond.
Decent symmetry, good angles, long lgf%, thicker girdle which while hiding a little weight also adds durability.
Not the best of the best but a good diamond that I wouldn''t mind owning.

So, if I understand correctly, now I just need to invite you, storm, john, wink, etc... over for a diamond approval party in my AGS0 hot tub, and have everyone come to a consensus about whether or not my fiancee and I will enjoy the longer lgfs....

I do feel at times that I get just enough information to be dangerous.... I think I will give the stone a shot, can always trade up if it doesn''t work for me in person...

Ok I'm impressed. This means you made it several pages into that thread. I also recall wine, mussels, buttocks, cyborgs and Paul having dreams about Garry. I'd say it should be required reading...but it might scare people away!
