As most of you probably already know, I was looking to purchase the Tiffany Novo ring setting. I was dumb enough to believe I could purchase the setting by itself but then I learned I couldn''t. I''ve come a crossed many similar rings and styles but in the end I''ve decided the Excel Diamonds: Novo Replica was probably the best pick. So with that said, is there any pros and cons to this ring or buying from Excel Diamonds? I''ve heard horror stories from people who got their rings from BlueNile and had their diamonds fall out within a year. Is there anything I need to be concerned about with buying a ring from one vendor, getting the diamond from somewhere else like Mark and EngagementRingsDirect, then having a 3rd party set the diamond in the ring? Any advice or testimonies would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!!

Why wouldn''t you just have Excel mount the diamond? They''ll do that, even if you buy the diamond from someone else.

I bought my ER from Excel, and I''ve got nothing but positive things to say about the experience. The craftsmanship on my ER is superb, I can see no reason why you should expect to have any problems with one of their settings. My appraiser commented on the quality of the ring when I got it appraised. I''m super hard on my rings, I almost never take them off, and I''ve not had any issues at all with the stone loosening.

I looked at the pictures on the Excel site, and I am sorry to say that I don''t like their repro at all. I honestly think if you are going to get your diamond from Mark at ERD, I''d have him make the setting. I think over time Excel will probably refine that setting and make it better, but it honestly does not compare to the Tiffany Novo, in my opinion.

What exactly didn''t you like about the Excel Novo replica?

I agree....I think the excel replica just looks so much chunkier than the Novo, and the Novo is a bit chunky for my taste to begin with. Except if you're working with a huge stone...

BUT, I would also send my stone to Excel if you buy your setting from them. No need to involve a third party.

ditto, but not because I didn''t like the excel version of the novo. I think that there are clunky aspects of the actual novo such as the head, and ERD can make a more streamlined delicate version that would be even prettier than the actual novo.

I actually like the real Novo setting, but the head on the Excel one is really bulky and unattractive as are the edges of the shank.

So what would you suggest I do if I''m looking for something that looks exactly like the Novo? My soon-to-be fiance and I both like the Novo, so we''re ok with how the Novo looks. Don''t you think the Excel is the best way to go if I''m looking for the Novo ring?

I like the Ritani setting better personally. The excel replica just doesn''t look refined enough yet IMO. But really, it''s about what you and your GF want. Is there any way you can show her both and see what she says?

What do the folks at ERD say? It would be much easier to get a quote from them to make a similar ring since they can also set the stone.

I wonder if this might be a good alternative to the Novo: http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=103

It's made by Leon Mege in NYC, whom many people here have used to set their stones, and you could likely get it with a nice narrow shank. The head of this is much more refined than the Excel version of the Novo and his work is so precise, it would probably turn out fantastic. Mark's clients often ask him to send their diamonds to Leon for setting, so it would be a seamless transaction. Just thought I'd throw that in there in case the Ritani isn't your thing. Personally, I love the Ritani, but you're right, it's a different look than the Novo.

I don''t get it, so many people recommend the Excel Novo Replica and then they don''t. So confusing.....

Did you see the thread with the actual pictures? I thought it looked pretty good. I do like the Ritani also.

You can find other threads by searching "Excel Novo"

add me to the list of those who don''t really like the excel replica of the novo. If you are getting the stone from Mark T, I''d definitely get a quote from him on making something similar. I also really love the Ritani...

I think most people recommend Excel in general for their other Tiffany replicas...I haven''t seen many people recommend the excel novo...

I think it''s pretty new on excel''s site for one thing. there is only one person here i believe that owns it so not a lot of real life consumer opinions. Also, the regulars here have fine tuned their vision on tiny details and the chunky nature of the replica is something that would keep us or at least me from suggesting it.

Ditto. I''d have Mark make you one, or go with the Ritani setting.

My girlfriend loved the tiffany novo setting and I was also one who thought i could just buy the setting from tiffany. HA SOL on my part. I think the excel replica is the closest that I have seen to this ring butttttt I still wasn''t sold on it. My girlfriend really likes this setting at james allen and it is reasonaly priced at $975 for platinum and $575 for WG.

hope this helps

That James Allen setting is one I looked at too. I think you''ll be very happy with them. The replica from excel doesn''t look the same as the other ring you want. Go with the James Allen, it''ll be fun to be able to get her a matching band and even other bands to match/stack in various other stone varieties for anniversaries, milestones, etc.

Just a suggestion. :)
