I want to show you the work of a friend's cousin's daughter (is that far-enough removed for disinterest?), Sunny S. Bond, who among other things works with people who want to put vintage family gems in wearable settings. I usually believe in leaving well enough alone, as the older settings are often more charming than newer versions, but in this case I think the final products are real improvements. Will post a couple of pictures later, but first a couple of links.
Run-of-the mill solitaire and a bunch of small family stones turns into cluster ring:

Blah emerald solitaire becomes centerpiece of three-stone ring, with vintage matching band:

There are a bunch more examples on her site: http://sunnysbond.com/work#/id/i8893496

HI:

Thanks for sharing! The ring with the thread/wool in it was particularly clever!

cheers--Sharon

I love the before/afters! Very nice!!

Thanks for sharing this - her work is as beautiful as it is resourceful!

And everything old is becoming new again. All the previous jewellery designs are considered ROYAL these days and it's considered to be a status symbol.
