I’d probably sell the setting whole - maybe put a semi precious stone in there like an amethyst- probably not take it apart.Forgot to ask, will you be repurposing the stones around the yellow cushions? They look lovely.
You and I are always on the same bling track. I was going to either get Ds or a d and an e - I want very white.Cushions - but nice and white so it shows off the yellow in your sapphire. I think the combo is more interesting, they give better visual balance, and they delineate the shape of your stone more, while half moons basically turn your cushion into a circle.
Either way, i think this will be killer.

I’d like to get some that are the same ratio as my center which is slightly out of square
I can’t decide on the head of the setting either. How many prongs? Should it be yellow gold? Hmmm so many decisions.
I was thinking half ct cushions but honestly idk if my finger could handle that size with the ratio in after they’d be like 4.7*4.3?
So far I’m leaning cushion for these reasons
- Easier to find
- Cheaper
- Can find Gia grades ones in the color I want
- Better performance
I have half moons on an oval center in one of my Beaudry settings, but I wouldn't choose those for sides if I were going custom. Your cushion is fairly rounded. I might go with little bezeled rounds even. I think you'll have difficulty matching diamond cushions that are similar in shape to your center stone.
I know it's not what you want, but this is one I like:

Thanks for the pic but I really don’t want rounds. If I go forward with cushions they’ll be modern cushions - I see no reason non crushed ice modern cushions wouldn’t match a native cut sapphire.
The color is a perfect yellow as is- it does not need a cup and I don’t need to worry about how to clean one! LolI voted for cushions as I think that they will help enhance the sapphire more than half moons will. I think the moons would just get lost.
I was looking at the sapphire in the other thread and I think that with the paler yellow, I would love love love to see it set in a high cut yellow gold esp if you were going with d and es for the diamonds it sounds like you're looking for the color to really shine.
Are it you thinking of putting in a cup for a little color enhancement?
Definitely looking forward to seeing this stone set!
How exciting! Do you have pictures from the person who did the recut, or are you waiting to share them in a big reveal? She’s gotten a face lift and will be back this week. She’s not perfect she’s still got a little window but he was able to keep her over 10 cts at 10.39. This was very important to me and she looks lovely. Very happy she didn’t explode while getting recut!
His photos are so so bad- I’ll take my own when it’s here WednesdayHow exciting! Do you have pictures from the person who did the recut, or are you waiting to share them in a big reveal?

Because you asked....I usually admire Leon Mege's choices of side stones, but the cushions look like awkward appendages to my eye (similar to the "ears" effect that LM denounces), rather than a component of an organic entity. So I prefer #1 of the two depicted.
But I'm thinking that chevrons could work well: would confer the bling-additional finger coverage you're seeking while providing a nice transition into the shank. Something like this, but maybe with bigger (i.e., taller) chevrons?
CONGRATULATIONS on (a) snagging that sapphire, and (b) the recut!!![]()

No one is having overhanging sidesI love three-stones wherein you can see skin on both sides of the diamond trio face-up.
Overhanging sidestones do start saying "ears" very quickly to my eyes as well, though![]()
