Looking into getting an everyday diamond necklace. I'm torn between a solitaire or a DBTY. Both options would have a CTW of between .5-.75. I'm having ID Jewelry look into some stones for the solitaire for me. Which do you all feel is better for everyday wear?

I would say a solitaire. Have IDJ do an adjustable chain which will give the necklace more versatility. And if you do a bezel pendant, your stone will look larger than it is. Good luck. :wavey:

Hmmm this is tough! I got a DBTY first bc I love to layer it with other necklaces I have and I like the sprinkle of diamonds around my neck. However, a bezeled solitaire (a la Queenie ;)) ) is still on my wish list for the future.

Pendant would be my first choice...

Pendant.

I'll post the ASET of the stone I'm looking at once they get it in house. The one I'm eyeing is part of their virtual inventory. It's a warmer color so I was planning on bezeling it. Thanks for the feedback.

I had a DBTY necklace and didn't like it. On me, for some reason, the diamonds kept turning over and I was forever taking it off and trying to straighten it and get them to lie the right way up. I gave up in the end and sold it.

The biggest and best cut solitaire pendant you can get. That will always be a classic. For future purchases if you still want you can get a DBTY and layer it with the pendant or wear alone. But a solitaire pendant is timeless elegance. :appl:

I have a DBTY with .08 stones from BGD and I love it. However, for me it is a pendant chain. I rarely wear it alone, it is not quite enough. I am not sure if it has 8 or 10 stones. The perfect combo to me would be a solitare necklace with a dbty chain. I would go for the solitare necklace now and add a dbty pendant chain at a later date to add extra sparkle. My everyday necklace is the dbty with a princess cut heart pendant. I can hardly get myself to wear anything else.

do a pendant however have two small stones one inch away from the center stone on either side best of both worlds

I've decided to go with an OEC for the pendant. Which of the following would be best to select? I listed the clarity characteristics in the order they appeared. I'm being somewhat vague so I can hopefully get one of these.
L, SI1 (Feather, cavity) - 4.62x4.78, table 51%, depth 56.3%
I, SI1 (Twinning wisp, indented natural, cavity) - 4.66x4.79, table 50%, depth 56.4%
K (light brown), SI1 (cavity, chip, feather) - 4.96x5.05, table 58%, depth 54% (table % is higher than depth)

They are all GIA certified. I plan to bezel the stone in white gold.
Thanks.

Do you have photos of the OEC's? Depends on the facet pattern - there are different facet patterns for OEC's. Be sure to purchase from a reputable dealer so that you know what you're getting. Good luck. :wavey:

Hi Queenie, it is a jeweler (not local but highly rated) so reputable dealer and I'll get the GIA certificate with the stone.

These are the stones:

The L

The I

The K (light brown)

I'm leading towards the K or L for facet patterns but just wondering is there clarity characteristics are a make or break.

Either the L or the K. Better facet pattern than the I.

Have them take videos for you. Will be the only way to decide.

There's also a G I1. Only clarity characteristic is a crystal. Nice size too. 4.67x4.75 with table 56, depth 58. They won't be open until the morning so just judging which stones to tell them. Don't know if I should add this one too.

Only weird thing is GIA certificate calls it Circular Brilliant.

Thank you for your help.
Excited to finally be seeing stones I like.

The store would not take videos so I passed on the stones. However, when perusing eBay I found this great ring with a H-I SI1 (uncerted) OEC with a pattern I liked. They were able to take a video which looked great. They are a top rated plus seller with 99.9% positive feedback and have a B&M front and a great return policy so I took a chance buying the ring at what I felt was a nice price. I inquired with them if the setting could be removed from the shank and used as a pendant. They were apprehensive as they said it is top heavy and will spin on a bail. They said a better solution would be to place the stone in a simple bezel but part of the reason I got this is I think the setting really compliments the stone and is a bit more unique. I attached some of the pictures of the ring - most are close up and the YG on the shank tinted the stone but on video it's a nice whitish color with just a hint of tint. Do you think a jeweler might be able to change this setting into a pendant and what they may need to do. I am also considering placing a chain (where the arrow is) and having it as a slider instead but would that also be apt to spin? I'll post better pictures when it arrives next week.
Specs on stone are:
Uncerted H-I, SI1 Diameter 4.64mm (pendant is 6.48mm square)
Thanks.
