Hi everyone. First post here. I'm considering a jewelry purchase but I'm not totally sold on it. I know more about jewelry than most guys but that isn't saying much. I wish I knew more and would like to learn. Thinking about purchasing this pendant. Would like to know what you guys think of it. I'm not looking for a lecture about how I should never buy anything on ebay because I will buy anything on ebay. It has a 30 day return policy so I could easily return it if I wanted to.

So what do you guys think? Is this a good price on this? Buying jewelry always scares me because everything is so subjective. I have no way of knowing what this pendant should sell for. It does not come with a chain. So there's very little gold in it. The amethyst itself can't be very expensive. I don't know what all the little pink sapphires are worth. Are you mainly paying for craftsmanship on something like this or just over paying? I need 3rd party advice. And hopefully nobody buys it out from under me now! lol

Seems overpriced to me. As you pointed out, there's very little gold, and what there is, is probably gold plate rather than solid. With only the one picture and no weight to go by, you don't even know whether it's a solid or hollow piece of silver. You have no idea how large the piece is, and there are discrepancies in the description - is it trimmed with 14k or 18k gold, and why does the description say it's citrine? Speaking as an active dbay buyer - there are way too many red flags for me to even consider this piece, especially at that price.

Possibly a better option? Still some issues - not enough pictures for me - but there is a bit more information offered, and it comes with a chain. ;))

If this is a gift I would be wary. It is very 'detailed' 'stylized' etc. If your recipient does not like it can you return it? I do not think it is very pretty (my opinion only) and I think that nearly $600 for that set mainly in sterling is way too much. You would do the same or better in a big box store with a return poilicy. Sorry.

Thanks alot for the replies and your honest opinions. Pretty much confirms the uneasiness ive felt about
it. The description is sloppy and the seller gives very brief responses to long inquiries. Theres no way to know
what it is. Ill pass.

Ross Simon also has a good selection of amethyst pendants, and they're offering 25% off and free shipping right now.

This one's very nice, though perhaps a bit dressier than what you were looking at: http://www.ross-simons.com/products/793904.html

yeah this is fishy. if you aren't that concerned about the stone and like that style, for that price you can probably get something from david yurman or lagos or one of the other designers who have a similar aesthetic. those designs are heavier on metal and don't necessarily use top stones, but they definitely have a specific look if that's what you're going for. they are available from lots of retailers where you can probably see them in person.

overall, amethyst isn't particularly expensive except in super top colors, so you should have lots of options in both gold and silver, from simple to ornate -- it all depends how much you want to spend.

if you want a completely personal piece with a hand-selected stone, you can head over to the colored stones board and get some help picking a great stone and finding someone to create a setting for you.

good luck!
