Hi,

I bought this ring earlier in the week, and do have 3 days to return it. Once I receive it, I will take it to a GIA Gemologist for appraisal, but wanted to get your thoughts on the diamond please. I will reset the diamond if it works out the way I hope it does. I would really like to hear your thoughts and opinions on the diamond please. Thank you in advance!

I saw that ring earlier today. Very pretty!!! Nice symmetry and the facet patterning looks pretty. Also a very nice, small culet.

Hi Uppy!

Thank you for responding! I''m actually pretty nervous, but it looks exactly what I''ve been looking for!

How was the stone represented to you?

It was presented as a .96 to 1.00 ct European cut diamond, 6.30 x 6.40 3.9 with no visible nicks or chips, G-H color and VS clarity with a small open culet from the period 1920-1935.

I think you're probably going to have that verified. It really looks nice and I like the color and pattern. You'd really have to have it unmounted to double check the clarity, but if it's off, it will only be slightly. The only other point that may be contradicted is that it may be described as transitional rather than old european. Reason I say this is because the table looks a little larger and the culet a little smaller than older europeans. It wouldn't change the beauty or the value you got! If you got a good price, you did very well!! I hope you love it for years!!

I think it''s beautiful!

Thank you Uppy and SpicyTuna!

I did wonder if it was really a Transition Cut as well. Either way, if the Gemologis verifies everything, I will definitely keep it!

I think it''s beautiful too -the setting is lovely.. Good luck with the appraisal!

It could be an OEC but the table seem large.

Very pretty!

Check out that thread. There is OEC, and they there's "European Cut." Rick Sherwood posted some information:
What years were these stones cut?
-----------

The machine which made it possible to brute a round diameter on a diamond was invented around 1900, so that can be used as a demarcation point in the dating of these old cut stones.

Old Mine Cut stones (cushion shaped) are typically circa 1840-1890.

Old European Cut stones (round, with small table, high crowns, and large to very large culets) are typically circa 1900-1920.

European Cuts (larger tables, lower crowns, medium to large culets) are typically circa 1920-1940.

Transitional Cuts (transitioning between the european cuts and the modern round brilliant cuts) are typically circa 1940-1950.

European Cut characteristics- Lower crown, larger table, larger star facets, medium
* to large culet, smaller (but larger than modern RBC) lower girdle facets, symmetry
* usually better (fair to very good).

If your stone is a European Cut, (versus an Old European Cut), it will have a larger table and smaller crown than an OEC, but probably still "smaller and higher" than a modern round brilliant.

Just gorgeous! I hope you keep it.

Thank you Maevie and MC...I hope it works it too!

Thank you HVVS. I did look at that thread, and it looks like this diamond falls into the European Cut era from what I can tell right now.

Stci...I see that as well, but I believe that the later European cuts have larger tables as well.

LisaRN...thank you, me too!

I think too. For me, I prefer OEC to EC cause I don''t like to see inside my diamond.

Did you return the ring? What did your appraiser say about it?

I am anxious to know, too as I am thinking about buying a ring from this vendor!

I "almost" bought from this seller but did not.
I might have missed out on the item but I don''t regret it at all. Something about the seller during our communication process made me feel very uncomfortable with her. I hope you have better chemistry with her though!

I didn''t actually receive the ring because I was going to do this in 2 payments. No, I didn''t keep it, but it was due to a "hiccup" on my side, not the sellers. The seller seemed really nice to me.

Again, my experience with the vendor was very pleasant and seemed very nice. What I will say to you though is make sure the ring is what you really, really want and be sure to read the vendor''s return policy. You will have to have something in writing from a GIA Gemologist disproving the vendor''s description of the ring for a refund, so I don''t think refunds are the norm and I don''t believe you''d be able to return an item "just because...".
