Wedding etiquette Q: give the same amount you received?

DH and I were wondering how much to give to for friends'' weddings in the near future. We kept track of how much we received from everyone in an excel spreadsheet. Do we give the same amount in return? Many of the couples we invited to our wedding will be getting married in the next year.

In my circle, we usually give the same amount that was given to us previously, or more if we feel it''s needed to cover our plates. I suppose it depends on your circle and what part of the country you''re in.

I would say to give about the same amount if you have similar lifestyles and finances. Since I''m still working on my undergrad and hubby is getting his masters, we would probably just give what we could afford with our student lifestyle instead of trying to match what our friends gave us.

I usually do what I can for my friends. Sometimes its more than what they did for us...and sometimes it''s less. But, as the majority seems to agree--it''s all about what you''re comfortable doing.

I say if the money is there, then most certainly give what your received. If you can not afford to, then don''t. Your friends will understand if you don''t have the money. I agree with Oobiecoo, if your finances and lifestyle are the same then for sure give the same amount.
