Hey all-

I am recently engaged and my fiance did a wonderful job picking out a gorgeous ring. It is a platinum set, 2.2 carat, F color, VVS1, ideal radiant cut solitaire. When he bought it, he fell in love with an eternity wedding band (channel set princess cut). I was actually thinking of a plain platinum band, so this was quite a departure from what I had pictured. He is right though- it is a stunning set when you put them together. So, I am inclined to get the eternity band as he has great taste and did a great job on the e-ring. So here are my questions:

1) How durable is a princess cut eternity bands? I compete in triathlons, dog agility, cycling and running events. Our idea is that I leave the e-ring at home for some of these events (i.e. triathlons)and just wear the wedding band. Of course, this means the wedding band needs to handle being worn all the time. It is not the end of the world for us to replace a stone but I don''t want it to happen routinely. ;)
2) How important is the quality of stones? My fiance is leaning towards high quality (VS1, G color, ideal cut) stones in the eternity band as he is concerned they will look less sparkly and yellow compared to the solitaire. How much does it matter?
3) Any concerns about width? My e-ring band is about 4 mm and the eternity we''re looking at is ~4.2 mm. We have put them together and they look fine but wearing it all the time for years and years is a different story....
4) Any other suggestions we should consider? I want something durable, pretty, and comfortable. He is very keen that it also have that ''sparkle it factor''. I like simple, clean lines, square styles.

We''re getting married this summer but we''re looking to get the wedding band relatively soon. My fiance wants me to have it to wear as an option if I need to leave my e-ring at home (I like wearing a ring all the time now that I have one:)).

Thanks!

Hi agirlrescues,
Congrats on your engagement! Your ring is stunning! I will give you my opinions on your questions.
1) As far as durability, some of the things you do sound like they could be rough on a ring. To go along with
the princess e-band I would also get just a plain inexpensive white gold (or plat) band to wear while doing
your rougher sports. There are several people who do this.
2)For color - the basic rule on PS is that you can go 2 colors off. Like if your e-ring is an F you could go down
to H colored stones and should not notice a difference (*unless very color sensitive). Considering these
stones will be relativly small it shouldnt be a problem. VS1s, VS2s and eye clean SI1s should be fine for
clarity. Its the cut that makes the stones sparkle but you dont want to see any big black inclusions in the
stones either.
3)As far as width, I would try on different width gold bands with your e-ring and see what you find comfortable.
Since your e-band may be wider it may make your e-ring feel a little tighter because it will push it out a little
further to the fatter part of your finger.
4) Here is a link to the facets collection. They are well respected on PS and have lots of choices as far as
different carat weights of princess e-bands.

Edit - you could also go with radian stones...here is a link to shared prong radiant e-band

I keep thinking of more things to say

You could consider a 5/7/9 or 11 stone ring. Less stones to worry about losing.

Thanks! Very helpful!

Yum! Beautiful ring!

What do you think about baguette eternity rings? I personally love them and would love to get one - I believe it''s what M.Monroe wore - so beautiful and clean looking.

I definitely think it would be risky wearing that bling all the time with your activities.

I have a plain gold band that I wear when on vacation or hiking or training/competing with the pups, yes, I do agility too! We also foster for a rescue, so have between 3-5 dogs at any time in our home - so I am very rough on my hands with all the doggie-business needing to be done...rarely wear my rings on the weekends.

You could get the eternity and a plain band (or something like the WF scattered band if you don''t like plain) and use them both in the ceremony, so each will have special meaning.

There''s a vendor called SND gems - they get mixed reviews, but have TONS of eternity band styles to look at and see what catches your eye.
