Eternity for fat finger, hopefully not fat for an eternity.

I have a problem I need to talk through with you guys.

I am carrying some extra weight right when I'm going to get an eternity band. My wedding ring is a 5.25 and my e-ring is a 5.5. I was 70kg when I got married and now I'm 90kg. Ugh. :knockout: I don't intend on staying this big and am getting to the gym more again.
I don't wear my w-ring right now. I can get it on but it is uncomfortable. I wear just my e-ring. I can't wear both together. :blackeye:

I have some right hand rings that are size 6. I still wear them with no trouble. I sometimes wear my haloed aquamarine ring (6) on my left ring finger. It is a touch big on cold days but I don't fear losing it. It does spin.

I want a basket set ten pointer eternity. I've tried on the size 6 one at Tiffany's and it feels good. It is a bit tight to get my e-ring on as well. I tried on the eternity with a size 6 solitaire and that set fit nicely.

Do I just get one in a 6? Then if I stay fat (oh no!), it fits. If I lose weight (yay!), I just get sizing beads?
I was going to upgrade my e-ring at the same time but we are taking a huge trip to Europe instead. I'm still thinking of getting an e-ring re-set anyway.
My reset would be like a tacori 2326, full eternity. Do I just get everything in a 6? My current set is quite thick and the new rings would be thinner by a mm or two. But then I would need a spacer as well, so overall the same mm's.

Re: Eternity for fat finger, hopefully not fat for an eterni

I wouldn't get an eternity band if I knew my finger size may change. I'd get a 5-7 stone band, maybe in 14k gold in a stock setting that's fairly cheap, and then just plan to re-set into an eternity when my finger is back to 'normal.' But, I think sizing beads would bug me. Have you had them before? My problem with rings that are too large is that when I press my fingers together, the ring goes crooked on my finger.

I'd get a 6 because that is what you wear now. You want to wear it now, don't you?

If you are comfortable with the fact that you may have to get some sizing beads in it if you lose weight, then get the six. If you aren't, wait.

Re: Eternity for fat finger, hopefully not fat for an eterni

Why did my jeweler say NO to sizing beads in my eternities? The heat so near the stone seemed to be the no-no. Maybe he's full of it, however. I just let em spin - they're eternities afterall!

Thank you for your replies, you all bring up good points.
I really do want to wear my set now.

Do sizing beads feel that uncomfortable? Are they bad for the ring?

You may not even need sizing beads because it's an eternity. You might not notice the difference between a 5.5 and a 6 when you lose weight. I wear a 4.25. A size 5 feels pretty okay on my finger so long as it is an eternity or a plain band, no spinning concerns.

Get the 6. Enjoy yourself.

The title of this thread made me chuckle!

I'd get an eternity from ID Jewelers. They have made them for many PSers who have been very satisfied. They have an outstanding upgrade policy where you can apply your full purchase price of an eternity to an upgraded ring with larger stones. So I'd order the size 6 now and when you're at your goal weight reward yourself with an eternity band with larger stones. The new band will be in your new size and you won't have lost any money from the first band.

Rosebloom, I'm glad I could make you laugh. :D
That is an excellent point about IDJ.

I think you lovely PSers have helped me make up my mind about the eternity band. Thank you!

What do you think about the size for my e-ring reset? Should I keep it a 5.5?

Re: Eternity for fat finger, hopefully not fat for an eterni

I'd probably reset my ring into something that fit comfortably now. Is it possible to have the Ritani setting you like made with a sizing bar? That would be ideal.

Looking forward to seeing the new beauties!!

I definitely would not get an eternity e-ring at this point. Get one that can be sized. I'd size it a 6 now so it can comfortably be worn with the eternity band. If you later lose a half size, then just resize the e-ring because it sits on the outside so it won't matter if the eternity is slightly loose.

DS2006, Rosebloom, you're right. I guess I'll have to lay off the cookies.
A 3/4 eternity shank for my e-ring with engraving in the bottom part will still look very nice.

Does sizing a three sided shank like a Tacori make it more likely a melee will fall out?
Does anyone here have sizing beads? How do they feel? Does your ring feel secure?

This is frankly a brilliant idea.
