Eternity band w/ 16 pointers too much for 1.5 ct solitaire?

I'm in the process of upgrading my 1 ct stone to 1.5 ct and getting a new solitaire setting. From my existing setting & wedding band, I have nine 16-point stones that I want to re-set to create a new 3/4 eternity band. Do you think 16 pointers would be too much for a 1.5-carat solitaire?

I realize it's a matter of preference, but thought I'd ask for some feedback! :twirl: One option is to wear the eternity band on my right hand, but I really have no idea what type of band to choose to wear with the solitaire, and I'm really partial to the solitaire + shared-prong eternity look. What do you all think? How big would you go? My ring sz is 4.5, if that helps.

personally, I think .16's would be too big next to a 1.5. But, it is a matter of preference. I'd do .08's-.10s next to a 1.5 center. here is a picture of sna77's wife eternity which has .16's and her center is 2.37 for some perspective..

Tiffany's website show's a 2 carat center with approx. .10's.

I would do it in a heartbeat!

I have a 4.5 finger size with a 1.5 carat solitaire. I stack about 50 million bands with my ering, and it still holds in own :)

I think it will allow each ring to make a BIG statement :)

Not sure if this will help much because my diamond is a 1.08 Pear and my wedding band is a 5 stone and not an eternity
ring but they are 16 pointers. See my avatar.

my center stone is 1.77 and inside a halo. My eternity band has 10 pointers and I like the way they look together..doesn't overpower it. I'm not sure how the 16 pointers would look..I think you should go and try something similar in sz

I bought and returned the Tiffany eternity ring with 15-16 pointers. My diamond is 1.63 cts. and 7.6mm. The eternity ring was waaaaay too big in proportion to my stone. That size eternity ring is thick and not so comfortable, either. It will stand high enough that it will damage the prongs on your e-ring. I wouldn't go over 10 points and actually prefer smaller than that so that the stones are set low in order not to scratch the e-ring. That size eternity ring is a beautiful standalone ring, in my opinion. But I wouldn't wear it with an e-ring under 2 carats, if at all.

I agree with DS opinion. .16 is way too big for your solitaire.

Even if you pay big money for jewelry, if the dimensions are not correct, it is not pretty at all. This is not true to say "Never too bling or never to big" in my opinion. I see setting and wedding band sometimes that I would not wear even if it's expensive and I'm a size 9... imagine!

Given your tiny finger ... I think I'd opt for wearing them on different hands. I wear almost a full size larger than you do and have a 1.5 center stone: I just got a carre cut band of 10 pointers, and, yeah, if I wear them together, the band overwhelms the e-ring. So I just wear the eternity with my wedding band on my right hand, and pair my e-ring with a smaller stacker, or wear it on its lonesome. Hey, it's nice to have options!

I have an eternity band with 16 pointers and it is definitely a stand alone piece...

You are all such a helpful bunch! Thanks for all the feedback.

After viewing the links mrssalvo posted and seeing different proportions, I am thinking I do want a smaller band - maybe .08. I don't know why, but I always thought that the eternity band in the Tiffany stock photo with the solitaire was much bigger than ~0.10 - thanks mrssalvo for posting that info!

diamondseeker2006, comfort would be important to me, so I appreciate your comment about your experience with the same size band.

As of now, I've asked BGD for some quotes. I'm not sure yet what I'll end up with at the end of this process. At first, it was just going to be a center stone upgrade, and then I decided I wanted a new solitaire setting, and now a new eternity in addition to re-setting the 0.16 stones. I have to run this by DH!

What would you do?
1. New solitaire setting + new 3/4 eternity w/ 8 pointers. Depending on cost, wait to re-set the 16 pointers I have.
2. New solitaire setting + re-set 16 pointers into 1/2 eternity for right hand (maybe u-prong setting). I have a tiny WF bead set eternity I could wear w/ the solitaire in the meantime. Or, I could get a plain band?

Re: Eternity band w/ 16 pointers too much for 1.5 ct solitai

I'd do #1. I really don't care that much for a straight diamond band on the right hand. They always make me think wedding or anniversary band, and I think they are great to wear on a day that you don't want to wear the diamond e-ring on the left hand. There are other nice things you could do with the 16 pointers like make a diamonds-by-the-yard necklace or bracelet. But I'd get your wedding set like you want it first. I do think 8 pointers would be a very nice choice for the wedding band!

Re: Eternity band w/ 16 pointers too much for 1.5 ct solitai

Update: I decided to go with a 3/4 eternity with .07 melee. The .16s will be re-set into a 1/2 eternity for my right hand. Now working with BGD on a semi-custom solitaire setting for my new Brian Gavin Signature stone!

Re: Eternity band w/ 16 pointers too much for 1.5 ct solitai

How exciting! I think you made a terrific choice with the 7 pointers! It will sparkle but allow your big diamond be the center of attention! Can't wait to see all your projects finished!

Re: Eternity band w/ 16 pointers too much for 1.5 ct solitai

Yes, in a word.

I have a 1.67ct solitaire and think 5 pointers are perfect with it.

ETA: Just read the rest of the thread, and 7 pointers will look smashing. I have another half eternity with 8 pointers and it looks really nice too with my solitaire.
