Hello All! I''m coming out of lurkdom to ask your opinion about my idea for an eternity band. But first, I have to say thanks for such an entertaining, informative and addictive forum. I haven''t got a thing done since I found this site!

I''ve learned SO much from all you PS''ers and have spent many a happy hour (literally
19.gif
) drooling over all of your sparkly rings and things! I''m hoping some of you will be able to advise me on my upcoming project. I''m going to be upgrading to a 2.5 carat cushion later this fall (through Mark at ERD) and will probably go with a Leon Mege solitaire setting (like Boston Jeff''s) or the other very thin platinum setting on Leon''s site (his most ''elegant solitaire ever'' - I think he calls it). I will want to pair it with an eternity band at some point and wonder if anyone has seen a band created with squarish shaped cushion cuts. Would it be as beautiful in reality as it is in my mind''s eye??

I remember reading a post suggesting that smaller cushion cuts look alot like round diamonds so why bother.... BTW, I love the look of the cushion brilliant cut as opposed to the modified (crushed glass look) and wonder how hard it would be to match such stones for the eternity band. Am I asking for the impossible? Any thoughts from you cushion experts out there? Thanks!!

HI:

Have you seen anything here that interests you? What size stones/ctw are you thinking of?

http://www.thefacetscollection.com/anniversary.cfm

Altho not from Facets, I recently bought a ready made (non custom) 6.25ctw. asscher eternity ring. I am very happy with it!

cheers--Sharon

Yeah I think it would be a nightmare quite frankly and I hate to sound so pessimistic but it is so hard to even find a good cushion let alone two that match and small cushions aren''t abundant and youw ant to find 30 well cut matching cushions that are tiny? yeah... no LOL I don''t see it as easy, cost friendly, and in the end you''re not going to get much from it and it is likely they will look like poorly cut rounds ESPECIALLY if they''re square. Now, that said... go for it! LOL You can guinea pig

One suggestion I could offer though, what I''m doing for the melee on my cushion stone, is using single cut diamonds.

I do want to add one thing though, if the stones are going to be say 30 or 40 pointers the eternity ring thing might work... IF you can find enough matching stones - you might have to have them cut for you which would drive the price up... but at 10 pointers I think it''s a mistake, honestly. Even IF you can get *all* of those shoulders to match up between bulge and pointiness, at that size you''re going to mostly see misshapen rounds anyway. Just my opinion, feel free to ignore it :)

daniel k already makes one:

you might ask Mark about getting the actual daniel k band or if not, see if he can modify the design a bit and make something similar but I agree with cehra, it would be quite the challenge to match them up yourself and if they are 10 points they will look like rounds so I'm not sure it would be worth it.

your idea is great, i recently had the same thought as you...

well that one is almost 10 carats, so definitely not small. I think I read somewhere that daniel k will do and asscher uternity band and go as 1 ctw, don't know about the cushion band though and I do agree with smaller stones they will look round and not worth the daniel k premium if you can't even tell they are cushions...but I must say, the side view of that design is stunning in person...

I just looked it up - holy cow, each of those is a 75 pointer!!! Thats 9.75 carats!

So yeah, if you are going with 75 pointers, by all means do a cushion eternity LOL But if you want 20 pointers I''d still say skip it and go for the best round melee you can find, single or full cut, and enjoy the sparkle!

Rounds (to me) look best at the tiniest sizes but they have an upper limit.... cushions (to me) have a lower limit but the bigger the better LOL Ditto Emeralds and Asschers, though I think they can go a little lower in size without losing their individual look. The cushions the bigger they are the more you can tell they aren''t round or oval.

totally agree. one of my friends has just under a 1 carat cushion solitaire. it is just gorgeous but she said I was the first person out of tons of friends and family to see her ring that recognized it was a cushion. most just though it was a round or didn''t look close enough or even know what a cushion is to recognize it..

My first thought is that it would be a beautiful project, but very expensive to create. It would be possible, but difficult to find perfectly matched cushions for this project and they are going to face up smaller than rounds and probably be more expensive as well. If you are going with .50''s or larger or have an unlimited budget, I say go for it and it''s going to be gorgeous...but if you are trying to be economical or you want smaller sidestones, I''d say that it''s probably not worth it.

Hello again and thanks for all of your replies. I knew I''d get somebody''s attention with the word "cushion" in the heading!

I think you all are telling me what I already knew deep down but didn''t want to admit.... it''s a nice thought, but..... That said, though.... I DO love that Daniel K cushion eternity band - WOW! 9 + carats! Think that might be out of my league, unfortunately. I also love some of the eternity rings on the facets site. Especially the Raphael shared prong Radiant cut eternity band - think it was around 4 carats? I can pretend that I have VERY square cushions in it! BTW, has anyone seen this ring in person? I would imagine there''s alot of bling going on there. Anyway, thanks again for all of your help. I think for now I''ll limit my cushion-matching to something easier - like earrings!

LOL Not to mention if the two earrings aren''t identical you have lips, eyes, nose, chin to distract them as they journey from one to the other LOL

Holy bling! I just had to add that that Daniel K ring is fantastic!

Average size is 0.33 cts.
If you keep the shape a bit oblong..., you will definitely see its a Cushion shape.
