Hello everyone,

A thank you to the creators and users of this post - it has been very educational...

Question - I know this varies but what should the approximate (+/- $500 if possible) cost for a 1.00 carat G, VS2, EGL USA certified Measuring 6.45-6.37 x 3.94.
Depth 61.5

(these I am not sure how important they are but they are anyway..)
Table 62.0
Crown 14.3
Pavilion 44.0
Girdle Thin to medium
Polish GOOD
Symmertry GOOD
Fluorescence NONE
Culet NONE

It looks great and my girlfriend likes it, I just want to know a price from someone other than the seller....

Eeeeeeeeeeeeee. Ran the stone through HCA and while angles are more accurate than %...this stone is not a pretty sight. It got a 5.9 on the HCA with Good for Light Return, Poor for Fire, Fair for Scintillation and Very Good for Spread. Under 2.0 is excellent...2.0-3.0 is thought of as 'acceptable' as some other variations of numbers can put the stone into that category, but I would not consider anything above 3.0 (and if I were buying today would not consider anything under 2.0 as a personal preference). Also, 1c stones should have a diameter of around 6.5mm--the spread on this diameter would bother me with the 6.37.

I think you are also slightly overpaying for this stone given the quality. 1.0c mediocre cut G VS EGL Certed maybe is around $4000 ....but B&M stores mark up so who really knows. EGL certs are discounted normally...over a GIA or AGS cert.

For this same $5k you could get around a .95c G SI1 or similar stone (eye clean) with an EXCELLENT cut, Hearts and Arrows, AGS 0 with an HCA score under 2.0.

My two cents, pass on this stone and keep looking. Give your jeweler (if you want to buy offline) a set of parameters to stay within in order to increase the chances of him returning with stones that are better performing and better cut. Or start looking online and educating yourself on how to buy a stone and get a great deal with an excellent performer.

Best of luck!

Sorry Mara, maybe I'm missing something, but where did you find the price info?
The cut looks about average. Since you bought locally, I'd say $4500-5000 is a fair price. But I do think you can do better.

I bought a .91 G SI1 H&A from Jonathan at GOG for About $4700.00, I have not recieved it yet as it is at Vatche being set, but I can't wait! It scored 1.4 on the HCA.

TTECH, that's a beautiful stone! That's almost exactly what I've been looking for myself. I have a deposit down on a similar one(http://www.goodoldgold.com/0_936ct_f_si1_h&a.htm), but there aren't as many VH's. Also, the H&A images on yours look almost perfect!

Forgot to ask TTECH, has Jonathan used the Isee2 on this stone? The Bscopes on the .936 didn't look as great, but the Isee2 results looked quite good and it also got a 1.4 on the HCA.

A thank you to all that replied - this is a great educational website that has taught me a lot!
Pricewise the jeweler that is selling this seems to be asking a fair price then... - $3950 I'm guessing he plans on making his money on the setting and the wedding bands as well.
Thanks again to everyone for their assistance. Now if I can only get my girlfriend to spen some time reading this instead of window shopping so much!!!

Giangi..I don't know! I, for whatever reason, had thought the original poster said $5k was what he was paying. Oh well...the HCA score is still the same. Scary.

Steer your girlfriend and her window shopping into better sparkle territory

She should want the best stone possible for your bucks...hee hee. Of course 'best' is purely objective.

I am not nearly as educated as some of the people on this forum. I do consider myself to have a pretty good eye and fairly good at "shopping". Anyways... I just bought on Saturday a 1.00 Princess cut, G, VVS2. This thing is pristine. I paid $4,500. GIA certified and bought it from a Brick and Mortar store. I don't have ring in my hands yet, so I can't give all the other stats yet and I've looked at so many diamonds as of late, I cannot honestly recall them clearly off the top of my head. I will report back to the group though when I have all of that.

Good luck to you. I propose on the 10th of August.

Boulder,

No i don't have the I-SEE2 results, I asked Jonathan to run them if the stone has not yet been set. They are still on vacation til monday....so mabe then I will find out!

also, Boulder....Your stone looks awesome! the B-scope may not be quite as high, but if I had to guess, it looks like it might perform simular to an 8*.

Thanks, TTECH! That'll be great if it performed like an 8*. I'd be very happy!!!

I really should make the final decision in the next 2 weeks, so I'm holding out to see if another stone pops up but otherwise this is likely the one! The toughest thing in making a decision is wondering how all these scores translate into what you actually see when you see the stone first hand.
Regarding the Isee2, I just happened to catch him last week between the two vacations to get it down on my stone. I'd really be curious as to what yours looks like next week. All the results on your looks amazing. Cheers!

Quick question: Have your, or anyone else, had experience with the following online site for diamonds? www.diamondwholesalecorporation.com They have the best prices I've seen, checked out with BBB, and a mile long list of testimonials...what do you think?

Any reputable recommendations?

thank you!

Mel
