Hi everyone!

I've lurked for a while for inspiration and ideas, but I'd like to get your opinions on this ring I've been eying from Dover Jewelry. It's EC w/ baguettes (obsessed) at a pretty good size (approximately 1.31 cts) in platinum.

I don't know if they have any types of certifications for their stones, but maybe this is clocking in at such a good deal I'd be okay forgoing certain things if I'm able to get it appraised well. Has anyone worked with Dover Jewelry before? Do they normally work out well? I hate the idea of buying online, but I think this ring is perfect and I'd like for my e-ring to be estate. It's such a difficult decision! Any help or feedback would be MUCH appreciated!!

Thanks everyone!

Best,
KC

HI!
First I LOVE that ring and I think the price is great for what it is! There have been a few people who have bought from Dover (online and from ebay) and have loved what they've gotten.

For that ring I think the price is great (and it's platinum) and you couldn't come any where near the size/setting for the price it is. They do have a return policy and so you can buy it, have it sent to an appraiser and also see it for yourself and decide if its the right ring for you.

Here is a search I did for you and you can go though the threads. One person just got a beautiful bracelet from there and I've hunted that site for years for great deals on settings, etc.

Thanks! That is definitely helpful. They seem well-reviewed, and it's a REALLY good deal on the ring! I appreciate it.

Looks fabulous and the price is great. I'd pull the trigger too.

Just a word of advice. I would have it appraised by an independant appraiser IMMEDIATELY upon reciept. Even good Ebay sellers like Dover might get things mixed up, especially considering the volume they do.

Can't wait to hear what you think of it. Please post some of your pics when you get.

If you are unsure what an "independant" appraiser is, please ask and we'll be happy to help you with that. It is key!

Ditto to Gypsy! Without an appraisal, those specs are just approximate. How good a deal it is depends on the actual specs!

It is a gorgeous ring and well worth the time finding out since they have a return policy. Please come back and let us know what happens!

PS. I also would call and get that ring put on hold if your really serious about getting it. This is a diamond forum and it wouldn't be the first time a ring/diamond was snatched up right from under someones nose!

Wow, you ladies weren't kidding about people jumping on things! It's already been taken off the website. :(
Thanks so much for your feedback, and I will keep you posted on the rest of my e-ring journey! Any other tips are always appreciated.

Oh, no! I am so sorry! I would still call. You never know if a sale will actually go through. But if not that one, there'll be a better one for you out there somewhere!

Thanks for the encouragement! I think the gentleman is going to place a call to them tomorrow. I will absolutely keep you posted!

Looks like it is back on the website. If you do buy it then I agree with the ladies, make sure there is a return policy and get the ring appraised.

Well, we talked to them today. The ring definitely sold. Dover Jewelry said they would let us know if anything else comes up that is similar. Does anyone one have any favorite estate jewelers online?

JBEG - is wonderful to work with!

They sell some Estate pieces as well as antique diamonds! Grace is a gem and totally wonderful to work with!

I'm so sorry about the ring. I really had hoped you could get it! Here are a few of the places I stalk often.

I will admit though that the only place I've ever seen prices like the one ring that just was sold was on dover. You can get a few good deals (thought not as great in comparison) from JBEG and a few other sites I listed. Langantiques seems to be pretty expensive for what the item is, but they seem to be a very high class antique shop and so it comes with the territory.

Good luck!

This. +1

a lot of people on this site have experience working with independent appraisers, so just ask. This is an important aspect of the diamond buying process that many people miss, but it can make all the difference.
