So, i got to go look at my ering with my SO today! So excited. It is a custom ring, princess cut that is set on point. This is the "preliminary" ring before any of the engraving is done. I am just looking for any thoughts or comments on the ring so far...

It''s very pretty and unique. What type of engraving are you thinking of getting?

we were thinking of having lines from the top that follow the shape of the ring. My boyfriend loves it like it is but I feel like the diamond gets a little lost with the thickness of the band... I trust the jeweler to do what he does with it mostly. Its hard for me to explain what they showed me they were going to do... oh I should have taken a picture of the drawings we had...

I like the ring, it''s very unique.

I wonder if the engraving will match the modern style of the ring, or if it will have an old-fashioned feel on a very modern ring. Either way, I''m sure you are working with a jeweler whom you trust.

Can''t wait to see the final product!

I love the smooth angularity of this ring and would keep it as is! But I am not a huge fan of engraving on any ring, so that''s just my personal preference. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I would not get the etching/engraving done just yet. Hold off a while until you are certain what you want and how you want it done. I feel the setting is imposing as it is and wonder if it might take attention from your beautiful stone if you were to get the engraving?

You can always add it later but it would be a PITA to remove if you change your mind.

I hope I do not offend.

P.S. Have you thought about a wedding band(s) ? Will this ring be stand alone - that would make a difference in my mind.

No offense Steel. I value everyones opinions!

I must admit that the more I look at the pictures, the more I love how it is now. In person I felt like the diamond really blended in with the band and was not distinguished - that is why we were thinking to have the engraving which will draw the eye to the diamond and "feature" it in a way.

The ring will most likely be worn on its own for some time. I imagine having a band on top and bottom eventually that would need to be custom made to fit the ring, but that is down the road.

I would love any thoughts on a band though.

I think that getting the etching/engraving work done to emphasise the stone might be counter productive.

I would expect that your eye (when looking at the ring as a whole) would be drawn to the setting.

Whereas at the moment I look at the angular smooth band and am drawn to the stone.

I would be so tempted to wear your ring on my right hand and the wedding bands on my left. How do you feel about a ''wide'' ring set? Would you perfer dainty little bands or do you like the more artistic angular substantial looks?

Another vote for no engraving!

I can clearly see the honker in there! It's very very pretty and fluid in that nice setting. I hear you on how engraving would accentuate the diamond more, but then I feel you would run the risk of "boxing it in" and making it look smaller. The setting is so graceful that I think it's gorgeous as it is...shiny and fluid.
